Natalie’s first at bat of the softball season was a double to the left field line and then she stole 3rd and home! What a way to begin her season! Next up to bath she singled and came home, next at bat she got walked, and next at bat she was out at first. This was a really fun game to watch but the next game was up against a team that had only beat them by one run last fall and they seemed determined to make sure they won by more than one this time. And they did win 8-5. At that point I came home to pick up Michelle and her friends from Science Olympiad while Hubby stayed at the ball fields. He texted me updates and from the sounds of it I was lucky to be driving the other direction. Regardless, Natalie and Hubby were at the fields from 9am to 5:15pm but they didn't beat Michelle and her Science Olympiad buddies being at FRHS from 7:30am to almost 5:30pm (and I had to drive twice as far to drop them off and pick them up). I have to say I am proud of Natalie for shaking the rust off and having an excellent attitude all day long! The next day my dad got to join us watching Natalie play and the girls were only one run away from staying in the tournament. But it was a lovely spring like day so a fantastic day for watching softball.
The last week of basketball's regular season Danny had six games to go to on three different days. First up was actually playing against some of his former Titans teammates, which was fun to see. (I tried to get a picture of D talking to R but failed to get a good enough photo to be worth sharing.) The next two games were in a very red gym near my parent's house and Danny came home with what looked like a bite mark on his arm from when he elbowed an opposing player who had braces. I remember Danny saying he HAD to have his braces off before high school basketball season and I completely understand why. The last games I missed due to attending the Lunar New Year festival Michelle was helping with and performing at. Hubby went and the JV boys ended the season with an easy win. Danny is going to be trying something new this spring season! Instead of being on the high school baseball team again, he is going to try out Track & Field. Danny sees baseball as a fun game to play and knows it might be difficult to live without it after all these years but decided being on the track team would be more beneficial to comp basketball season and therefore his next high school basketball season. I have countless fond memories of watching him play baseball that this seems like a big deal but I am ready and willing to cheer Danny on in whatever sport he tries.
Double duty: Michelle was volunteering with SCLA from 9am to 2pm and then had time to practice and perform Dance of the Yao People with the YSO before helping with clean up for about an hour. I am grateful Michelle is a good communicator because I would have been super confused about her first YSO performance otherwise. The program listed her high school going first and the next high school over going second with no YSO listed. But the next high school over's director is also the director of the YSO so she actually performed with that high school's orchestra. What a strange feeling! I am so impressed that those two groups of students were able to perform together with only a little bit of practice before taking the stage. It was great to see Michelle smiling at the end of a performance. They really pulled something great off and sounded really good, especially considering the situation. A few days later she did play with her high school orchestra but wouldn't let me watch so I watched the live stream from home. Luckily TC got a photo for me without me even asking, for which I am grateful!
Happy 6th Birthday to Maisie Ann! Natalie made her a special Milk Bone and cream cheese treat and Danny added an apple. We are grateful for this sweet, soft, silly, snuggly companion. And you might be able to tell Natalie is in her softball gear. Outdoor practices began the last week of February and her first game/tournament was March 1st.
This was Michelle's first year participating in Science Olympiad since she didn't like the idea of meeting before school in middle school. She had fun and learned a lot. I'm so proud of her for trying something new and pushing her limits. Which she is also doing with the high school tennis team this year! I am really looking forward to spring and seeing what these new adventures bring.
