The Holderness Family made a cute video about how so many things happen in May that it can be as busy as December but without the Christmas decorations… and called it Maycember. Although I don’t feel crazy busy, there has been a lot going on!
I began the month of May by having a surgery I had the evaluation for almost six months ago and a referral from my dentist a year or two ago. I postponed the first time because it was set for the day I woke up with a sore throat and postponed again because I was still feeling off (not quite sick) weeks later and then didn’t reschedule until after our Disney Cruise because I didn’t want anything interfering with me enjoying the food on the Disney Wish. I’m glad I did because oh my goodness, I did not react well. Imagine me being worked on for over an hour, getting up to use the restroom, and then passing out while the assistant was giving me my at home instructions. They laid me back in the chair, getting my head as low as possible and giving me oxygen until I could open my eyes and my blood pressure came back up again. They had taken my bp before they began — 105/62 — and when they took it again after I passed out it was 85/40. The assistant assured me they were trained for this and it happened 3 or 4 times a year but I really scared him because my blood pressure went down instead of up and I had no color in my face. They decided there was no way you would let me drive myself home and tried to call Hubby. Since he was in a meeting he didn’t answer his phone and they decided to call Kate instead. I forgot her friend A had driven her to late start that morning so when Kate arrived she got to see me on oxygen but she, A, and Danny all got to see me pushed out to A’s car in a wheelchair. Later they texted me to make sure I made it home safe but I guarantee those three teenagers took good care of me. When Kate and Danny realized what bad shape I was in they both began texting and calling their dad to let him know “Mom is glitching” and that he needed to come home and take care of me, head to the pharmacy to pick up my 4 prescriptions, and get his truck back (with Danny’s baseball stuff in it) from the dentist’s parking lot… and he also picked up Michelle after Geo Bee and took her to Costco to buy roses for her orchestra friends and their last concert the next day, which I was planning on doing after the dentist. Meanwhile, I was worthless just laying in bed. If I tried to move around too much I would feel lightheaded again. I had planned on going to work like normal and was hoping to get off work early to see the first of Danny’s double header home baseball games but ended up getting my B day partner in crime to cover for me instead when I realized I still felt terrible hours later (and because the assistant had told me to take it easy for the next 24 hours). By the time bedtime rolled around I was so grateful E had already said she could sub for me because rinsing my mouth out for the first time literally made me nauseous and I almost passed out again. Luckily I could feel it coming on so carefully crumpled down on the bath mat and waiting for symptoms to pass and get into bed asap. That night I had a dream that some food was stuck to the roof of my mouth and woke up with my tongue trying to push away the stitches on the roof of my mouth. After trying to wake my high schoolers up, I was feeling nauseous again and let Hubby take over. He also made me a protein shake to see it if was the antibiotics and pain killers that were the cause of the upset stomach and the shake did help but I soon realized after putting my daughters’ clean laundry away that movement seemed to be the primary culprit. I knew I need to force myself to eat something with my noon antibiotics and rest up if I wanted to see any of Danny’s baseball game… but then he let me know he couldn’t play in them because he had skipped practice the day before. Doh! Kind of a relief, though, because next up on the calendar was Michelle’s final concert of middle school!

I loved hearing the orchestra perform wonderful pieces I had been listening to Michelle practice at home. Of course my favorite piece was Pirates of the Caribbean but my favorite part was seeing my middle daughter smile during the slideshow. I am so very grateful Michelle has had such a wonderful experience with middle school orchestra. I know Michelle will miss her teacher tremendously but I am hopeful that many of her orchestra friends will be with her at the high school and she can still have a good time. I thought she was so sweet to give out roses at the end of the performance and happy that she hung out at an orchestra friend’s house after school the next day.

Happy birthday to my mom and dad! Hubby treated us to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate after I bought them each a small present. I forgot how much I liked eating there and it was fun to see a teenage neighbor of ours working there.

Saturday is for softball and baseball when the weather cooperates and it did on Star Wars Day. While Hubby was at the double header with Natalie I got to take Danny to baseball. At this school they were fancy enough to play the national anthem before the game. And imagine my surprise when a mom of one of Danny’s former teammates came and sat next to me. Even though our sons were now competing against each other it was so fun to watch baseball with her again and catch up. It’s been years! And the game itself was really good too. These freshman teams were both really good and ended up tying 4-4. I was glad Hubby and Natalie came and watched the last bit after her games because that is when Danny made it to 2nd on an error.

That evening I was grateful I felt good enough to help celebrate KT & KW’s birthdays. It felt like a reunion of preschool moms and it was so good to see those moms again. And KT brought her craft supplies and made everyone Lego lightsaber ear rings for Star Wars Day. So much fun!
Monday was another baseball game but somehow I only came away with one good picture. Same can be said for Natalie’s softball game on Wednesday but we got to experience Buc-ee’s for the first time on the way home!
Meanwhile, Michelle was feeling ill Sunday - Wednesday but Maisie was more than happy to be on sick duty. I was about to take Michelle to the doctor when she finally felt good enough to go to school. Her first full day back was also the day of Danny’s last home baseball game and I made sure to have the camera ready this time… and caught a home run on video! The pitcher, C, is actually on Danny’s club basketball team and they both left straight from the baseball game to go get ready for their trip to Boise!

The house felt much quieter with our only boy in Idaho. While we did things like take the dog on long walks, do yard work, and take care of the VW, he was touring the Smurf Turf, eating delicious tacos, and playing tons of basketball. I was so happy to pick him up from the airport on Mother’s Day! Being home in one piece and getting to spend one on one time in the car was enough of a present to me. Oh, but even though we didn’t take pictures, Hubby and the little sisters spoiled me rotten this Mother’s Day! I felt so truly lucky I almost cried. But who wants to see their wife/mom cry just because you did nice things for her & buy her wonderful gifts? I cannot say enough about how grateful I am for my spouse for being the perfect partner for me, K & D’s birth moms for choosing us to raise their precious newborns, for being able to give birth to two rainbow babies, and for those who support our family in a variety of ways in the day to day of life.

And the night before Michelle babysat Natalie so that Hubby and I could go on our first date since our Disney Cruise. If you’re looking for a great date night, I highly recommend eating at Spitz and watching Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Get the cart fries and frozen lemonade and laugh sooo much together!
P.S. Date night was 10 days post dental surgery and I still had to cut up things like fires and meat into tiny pieces to eat. I actually talked with a softball mom who has the same gum graft done last year and she and I both agree friends don’t let friends have this done!
