Holiday Season

Luckily the teenagers that were interested in Black Friday shopping slept in so that Natalie and I could take down the Thanksgiving decorations and begin setting up for Christmas.  A little before 11am Danny came down the stairs all ready for basketball practice, saw what we were doing, and asked to stay home that one day instead.  How could I say no to that when I knew some boys were missing the entire week due to travel?  It looks a bit like there is too much stuff everywhere but like a meme I saw said, “Christmas decorations should look like joy threw up in your house.”  Ha! Those Jellyfish lights sure do come in handy and look so beautiful with the snow and moon.

I just had to put this here.  I love how these neighborhood girls have fun all over the place together.

Michelle and I got to go to our neighbor, J’s, college concert.  It was fun to see who will show up to a free concert at a university.  We wended up sitting behind this woman who had to be around 80 and she seemed so cool that we couldn't help but find ourselves eavesdropping.

I stayed to chaperone one of our students for the middle school Winter Social. I'm not allowed to take photos of the kids but I really did appreciate all of the hard work the volunteers put into this and it was a blast to see so many people having fun. I got a kick out of J dancing and the way he ate his snacks!  I had originally said that I would stay since Michelle and her friends were planning on coming to our house after the social but Michelle wasn't feeling well and missed some school.  She was able to be at school that Friday but just didn't have the energy to stay for the party and we had already canceled having her friends over because we knew we would be pushing it.  So that Friday night found her watching movies with her parents and little sister instead.  Was that one of the night we binged the tv show Dash & Lily?

Luckily Michelle could get plenty of rest that Saturday and attend the Winter Gala at the local high school.  We wanted to check out the music department because Michelle had considered going to a different high school but we were so pleased with the program that evening Michelle has decided to join Kate and Danny next year and I am thrilled!

Hubby and I had to divide and conquer because Danny had his first official game of high school about 45 minutes away.  So my dad and Hubby cheered on Danny while Michelle and I dressed up for music.  Hubby did a great job texted me so I got to have updates during intermission.  I felt so loved!

We decided to celebrate Hanukkah with latkes early this year and they were delicious as usual.  Michelle was feeling up to helping Hubby prepare them.  We thought we had made enough to have leftovers for dinner (since we were having them at lunch time) but they were so popular we ended up making dinner after all. Success!  Our dishwasher had a hard time keeping up but it was totally worth it.

Kate has been doing a lot of babysitting recently and can't wait until it will be legal to drive him around places so they can have even more fun together.  She was able to join Michelle and I at the movie theater to watch The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes along with her friend, A. I think I liked it best because I had already read the book and knew more details and appreciated them trying to make an adaptation true to the source material. A and Michelle really liked it too but Kate was not a fan!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
