Feeling Festive

Remember me talking about the Holiday Show at Michelle's dance studio?  Well, to my surprise, we were given photos from the dress rehearsal and I am so grateful.  Here are a few of them.

Friday I was lucky enough to have the day off and got to watch Natalie receive two awards at school.  One she doesn’t even know how she got but she gets to eat lunch with the principal and this one was the Spirit award complete with certificate.  I promise she was smiling before I got the camera out.  Ha!  It was fun to be at the school and see my kid’s former 4th and 5th grade teachers, give my youngest a hug, and say hi briefly to her friends in her class as they walked out of the gym.  I’m savoring these elementary school memories while I can.  Only one and a half years left can be hard to believe sometimes.

My guys headed to California for Danny’s first out of state basketball tournament. I was so sad not to go with them but wanted to be in town for the things the girls had going on. Hubby did a great job keeping us updated and would send out videos from the games. It sounds like everyone had a good time and they got some experience playing against zone defense when they are used to man to man. I got a kick out of throwing Danny’s ocean smelling clothes into the washing machine. I looove that smell and helped me feel like I was there for a brief moment. Now the team has great memories and even a funny TSA story where Colin was actually able to carry a bottle of ranch dressing through security.

Back at home Kate went shopping and had a sleepover at our house with E,  Natalie had a blast going to Get Air for M.E’s birthday party (aren’t you proud of me for letting a child go back there?!?), and Michelle learned choreography, had a hot chocolate party, and performed in our local city parade with her dance team.  At one point all three of them were gone at the same time and I ran errand after errand after errand.  I was grateful Michelle felt up to all that dancing after not feeling well all week.  We think she had her first migraine.  Apparently she was gone long enough that her algebra class held a funeral for her.  At least she knew she was missed.  Natalie and I had a great time watching the parade but the funny part was we couldn’t tell which dancer was Michelle.  So when her group went by we walked over to another part of the parade route and watched again and still couldn’t see which one was her in the dark.  Lol.  Turns out we were just on the wrong side of the street and some of the other parents got much better photos that I’ll share here.  The group photo is from the family who drove the truck and trailer with the little girls riding  along.  They do so much to support this team and I am grateful for the D family!

Sometimes its hard to leave the house when my dog is so darn cute while adjusting to the furniture that was moved around.  Sorry Maisie but the Christmas tree is in just the right place in our living room.  Don’t be fooled by how cute and innocent she looks.  Although she is much more calm than she used to be, if I don’t remember to make sure all the bedroom doors are shut before I go to work Maisie definitely takes advantage.  One day this week I came home during my lunch break and she had gotten into Natalie’s Halloween candy, Kate’s trash, and Michelle’s Christmas present for a friend.  Let’s just say I didn’t have much time to eat that day.  Luckily Natalie was still able to give presents to two of her favorite friends ever since preschool.  It is always great to see them together and they are thrilled to be in the same 4th grade class with a wonderful teacher.

Kate's club volleyball team had a team bonding at the local climbing gym and seemed to have a good time.  Us parents got to talk and her head coach definitely made us laugh.  It was nice to get his perspective on things as well.  Hubby was home with the other kids and per our usual, he and I took turns taking Danny to play basketball as well.  Hubby took him to some extra games with a lower level team in the club and had a blast.  I got to take Danny to a couple basketball league games with his team and I can see that he is playing more like the way he used to last year.  It is great to see him enjoying himself and also seeing him get better and better after his concussion really set him back.

We were hanging in there until Christmas break.  While most school districts had their last day of school on December 16, we had to wait until December 23 for our winter break.  We had illnesses and migraines and all sorts of things that prevented kids from going to school and volleyball and dance.  Not great timing for end of quarter or semester grades.  In good news, Danny stopped needing to take a nap everyday after coming home early from school.  That may not sound like a big deal but it is a milestone in his recovery.  We are taking steps to help him more by collecting data and getting him an appointment at the Complex Concussion Clinic associated with the local children’s hospital.  They are also planning on doing a complete neuropsych evaluation to get the best picture we can on how to help Danny have a full recovery and a better chance to succeed in school.  Pictured below is the robot I helped a student make in robotics class and the collage Michelle turned in her last week of social studies.  I'm more proud of her than me since I had help but I must admit I had mixed feelings tearing that robot apart in one class period (on the last in person day of the semester) after spending sooooo much time on that thing.  I'll stick to education and leave the engineering to Hubby.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
