Halloween Ready

I stole this cute picture from the the dance studio’s Instagram stories.  Michelle got to hang out with dance teammates before heading to Terror in the Corn with friends and it sounds like it was quite the fun day.  Then she was willing to go back to the studio the next day to help put down new tape on the studio floors and clean.  I showed up too and did things like clean the bathrooms which was a tad disgusting but very satisfying because it was obvious someone cared enough to clean them up.

Kate finished out her first high school volleyball season even though she was fighting off a cough.  The day after their last game she finally let herself rest by staying home from school for a day.  I am so darn proud of her!  Now she has a lot more free time after school and she spent her first day without volleyball practice doing a photo shoot with her friend C and I am totally in love with the results.  Autumn has been absolutely gorgeous this year.  I think it’s because we haven’t had a snow yet which allows the leaves to stay on the trees in all their colorful glory.

Warning: this post is not in chronological order because I am using an iPad at a hotel and am writing as the photos were uploaded instead of organizing them.  Now, Hubby got home from Utah with our girls on Sunday night so they still had an entire day off of school.  Michelle and Natalie both ended up bringing friends along to Crackpots with us and it was so much fun.  We also stopped by the bookstore and ate at Raising Cane’s together and I tried to be super sly taking photos.

Natalie got to join in on the Jesters fun this fall.  She was an elf and then a member of the queen’s army and Michelle was Mrs. Beaver in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe play.  It was so fun to see both of them acting in scenes together.  I think my favorite scene was the battle where Natalie was a bad guy and Michelle was using my rolling pin as a weapon. My parents cheered them on one night and Hubby, Danny, and I plus Brother & Sister O came another night.  I’m glad they had a good time but also glad they are opting to take a break.  They have so little time to rehearse and get ready when there is one play a month happening.  Maybe we will sign up again this summer if the company decides to stay open after school gets out!

One Friday night found Natalie and I had a dyslexia carnival put on by the school district.  We ate too much cotton candy, played games, and talked with others familiar with what it’s like to be dyslexic.  I was grateful that Natalie could do something that celebrates how great her brain is and she even had a friend to hang out with too.

I’m pretty sure Danny has the best view in the house this fall. Maisie was more than happy to look out the window while I helped him clean his room.

This is from an Activity Days where we divided the girls into two groups and one group acted out the story of Daniel (this group) and the other group acted out the story of Jonah using some story helps my mom had purchased.  It was a fun way for the girls to get to perform in a skit like way but keep it structured and Biblical.  There are so many famous stories from the Old Testament that we probably won’t get to study again for years so we are trying to take advantage of them while we can.

Shaking off the rust! For the first time in two months Danny was able to play in a baseball game.  He was nervous about how he would perform and was 0/3 for the first game. His coaches were super encouraging and reminded him he hadn’t seen live pitching for a long time and that it would come back to him.  They won the first game that I got to watch 22-1 regardless.  Then Natalie and Hubby got to watch a really close game that ended up 7-6 in the Vibes’ favor.  Danny got on base that game and told me he was surprised at how hard it was for him to run the bases.  Even though it is hard to return to sports after being gone so long, I think the physical activity is doing him some good.  I can tell he is happier being able to go out and do something he loves.  I hope this is the beginning of the end of his concussion recovery and that he can be his cheerful, confident self again soon.  I just love my kids so much and am so grateful for them!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
