Almost Over

I saw a meme that said June and July took about 4 seconds. I think that sums up how I feel like summer is coming to a close all too soon.  Only one full week left!

Many of the items on our summer bucket list were only things the non-teenagers wanted to do.  It was so fun to visit the DMNS on a hot day with friends in tow. They have never been there before so it was great to see their reactions and watch my girls show them around. We found all the gnomes/elves again and enjoyed the new Brain Games exhibit. Oh, and we got in for free thanks to our library pass!

I’m pretty sure Michelle and Natalie have been dreaming of going back to the Renaissance Festival ever since we left last year. Now that we’ve been there twice we feel like we got to do & see what we wanted even though there is even more we haven’t seen and done. Natalie was thrilled to get a wooden dagger like the sword Michelle bought last year, Michelle used her own money to buy a handmade leather mask, and Hubby bought a new wedding ring. I was thrilled about the ring because I like him wearing a symbol that he is off the market so really that was a present for me.

Natalie has loved going to horse camp this summer!  She is learning so much so fast, working hard and having a ton of fun. When the opportunity came up for her to go a second time we were definitely game. And what a great surprise, one of the girls from Activity Days was there too. They had a great time car pooling the last half of camp and have made plans to bike ride together.  Since Natalie’s first time there this summer was a mini camp she was very glad to have a four day camp so she could enjoy game day again. It was totally worth going to watch just to see her racing without dropping M&Ms or racing to eat a donut. Can you see that she got her expander removed and her top braces put on?  I wanted to get a picture of Kate, Michelle and Natalie together that day because all three of them have full on braces now but they didn’t like that idea.

Natalie also worked super hard at a one day softball camp recommended by one of our former neighbors. I was impressed by how well organized it was and how much they taught the girls.

When they are not busy doing other things, you can find them enjoying books/audiobooks or creating art. There are lots of girls Natalie’s age in the neighborhood now and it is a joy to see them playing together. It was also hilarious to see how happy Michelle was to hold the T family’s new baby at our ward’s July linger longer. She turned the color of her dress and was so excited she was afraid she would drop him. But she doesn’t looking scared of repelling with the Young Women at all a few days later!

The library pass system encouraged me to go visit the Museum of Discovery for the first time. Let’s just say we are one and done for that museum. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a wonderful museum but we decided the perfect age to be while visiting is six years old. It was great to finally know what it was like, get out of the house on a really hot day, and try something new.

As for the teens?  I promise I invited them to join in on all the places Michelle and Natalie went. Instead, Kate and Danny have been hanging out with friends almost every day. My memory is getting tested trying to keep track of who all is here or wherever they are or when they need a ride or what time kids need to be home. Some of the boys I have found myself giving rides to and from places like the pool Danny hasn’t hung out outside of school with for years. I promise I do request photos and once in a while I even get one. Here’s one of Danny at the amusement park that I actually obtained from C, not my son. Lol.  And I was so surprised to find eleven teenagers in my house after going to T Mobile (we switched from AT&T after being their customer since 2004 to get coverage at the baseball fields Danny practices at & to lower our bill) that I didn't even think to take a photo.  Ha!  I was just trying to figure out who they all were.  lol.  That will teach me to run an errand in the afternoon.  I should do that while they are still asleep in the morning instead.  Lesson learned.  (:

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
