Bikes, Burns, Baseball, Baptisms & Books

Guess who decided she finally loves to bike?  Natalie!  It has been so much fun to watch her discover the simple joy of pedaling around with family and friends. I feel like everything is right when she and I go bike riding together. Absolutely priceless.  (I don't have any photos but Natalie also really really enjoyed going to horse camp this week.)

My mom and Shelly O. helped me pull off a 9am - 3pm Activity Days activity last Friday.  We pulled weeds at Shelly's parents' house for an hour as a service project, walked back to my house (pictured here from Shelly's POV) before doing crafts my mom had prepared, acting out one Bible Story from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament, made pancakes and sausage over tin can stoves for lunch (that's where the burns come in!!!), and watched Rookie of the Year in the basement with soda and popcorn to finish off the day.  It was a lot for my family to handle having 13 girls around the house but I just really wanted to do something akin to a day camp for these girls as we have done in years past.  Only in the summer can we get away with such a thing.

Danny’s baseball team had to work harder than they were expecting at their last tournament.  Even though their first games both days were pretty easy wins they had to fight from then on.  Day one, game one was 11-4 and game two was an intense 11-10.  Hubby said it gave him a headache and he took a nap when they got home.  Natalie and I had been planning on going but when it was time to wake her up to get ready to go at 6am she decided it was too early. I knew Kate had some plans with friends she might need rides to so I stayed home with K & N while M & Hubby went to watch.  Apparently I feel the need to accomplish something while I'm not at a tournament I expected to be at and cleaned out the craft supplies and Activity Days supplies that take up almost our entire butler's pantry.  The space had become disorganized to the point where I wasn't able to find things when I wanted them.  Not anymore!  And it gave me something I could do while still listening to GameChanger because even though I was recycling and trashing a bunch of stuff it's not like I had to move around a lot to get everything in their proper place.  I think the part that impressed my parents the most when they saw it was the fact I had three jars of poms poms for small, medium and large.  lol.

Day two started off with just Danny and I heading to the tournament.  Only one of my primary kids was in town so I asked the sub for the H family to take my one with them so I could go watch.  Michelle and Hubby watched Sacrament meeting on Zoom so that Michelle could go to R's birthday party.  She seemed to have a great time and I was just so happy she was around people her own age, which she hasn't done a whole lot of this summer.  (With quitting both Scouts and track that pretty much threw all her summer activities out the window.)  Anyway, I was so happy to be there in person even though these boys had to play in the almost 100* weather again.  Since they were first seed they played the 8th seed first and easily won 15-0.  Danny and I kind of felt bad for them.  The next game was more competitive and I was worried for a bit but our boys never gave up and won 7-4.  Now they were guaranteed hardware but it was time to decide if they were bringing home gold or silver medals.  The team they played really wanted to win and put up a great fight but our guys pulled off a 9-4 win.  Such a great way to end the season!  The Vibes won their last 3 tournaments, last 16 games, and went 48-10-1 overall.  They have also achieved their goal to be able to move up to AAA next season to better prepare themselves for high school baseball.  High school baseball.  Now wouldn't that be incredible!

I am so very grateful for these coaches, these boys, and their families.  I appreciate that the adults seem to realize that sports are a way for kids to develop life skills, not just to develop the ability to win.  I love how these boys care about each other and take joy in their teammates successes.  I like how this team mostly goes to the same middle school and also helps keep Danny busy while there is no school.  lol.  You might notice a few new faces in this tournament win photo.  Some of our boys were out of town so the two new players that will be added to the roster in the fall filled in.  It was great to see how excited the boys were to have C & H join the team (along with having another C guest play just for this tournament). But watch out world.  Having this photo bomber on the same team as Danny this fall might be trouble.

Michelle and I took a day to ask Hubby to work from home so that she and I could attend the Fort Collins Temple and go birthday present shopping for Kate.  Somehow she ended up spending $101 of her own money on books at Barnes & Noble.  lol.  Don't worry, we also got lots of good stuff other places for Kate.  This week Kate was a her future high school's volleyball camp and had a great time.  I have no pictures but I can tell you she enjoyed the coaching staff, being there with friends and making new friends, the way us parents came together to provide potluck lunches for them, and of course, playing volleyball.  She is looking forward to high school try outs next month and is hoping to make the JV team.  Kate also tried out and was offered a spot on a non-travel BoCo team and decided to decline the offer.  So right now we are putting all our volleyball eggs in the high school basket and hoping for the best!

P.S.  We have Young Mens camp photos! The place looks gorgeous and I can tell the leaders put a lot of time into planning this.  I’m grateful Danny had the opportunity to go!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
