You Know It’s Summer When

… you take the dog for longer walks in the morning because the weather is perfect, you meet friends at the park and have play dates at their house or yours, Mom and Dad are driving every day to the orthodontist or a ball field or dance or track practice or the swimming pool. And no one has to got to school!  It’s amazing!

Hot dogs and s’mores in perfect weather for the win after yet another baseball game.

Michelle’s dance studio celebrated their 10 year anniversary with an amazing recital. My mom and I loved being there in person to watch and were very impressed. Of course Michelle’s routine was my favorite and executed well and there were too many great ones to count. She is looking forward to being on the Hip Hop dance team again next school year even though it means she will need to quit Scouts to do so. (Her assigned dance classes for the team will be on the same night as the Scout meetings and there will be competitions on weekends throughout the school year that would interfere with camping.)   Although at one point Michelle had the goal to be an Eagle Scout, she would much rather spend her time and energy on striving for straight A’s and competitive dance and Young Women’s/Church activities.  I wouldn’t pick out the straight A’s part but I like the rest.

I was so glad both Hubby and I could be at Natalie’s last softball game of the season. She loves softball and really enjoyed her time playing this spring and summer. Natalie is already looking forward to fall ball. I think she’s ready for the next level up and I’m excited for her.

Natalie absolutely loved her morning of hip hop camp and crafts with a Buzz Lightyear theme.  It was fun to see how excited she was to perform the routine they had learned. I’m glad she had such a good time trying something new. While she was gone I cleaned the car and finished her scrapbook for when she was 8 years old. I love creating those books for my children!

Hubby’s work treated families to an evening at our local fun center to say thank you for supporting employees that had gone out of town on business. Natalie was the only one who took advantage of the full attention of Mom and Dad + free mini golf, go karts and arcade tokens. It was a blast and I actually played this game where you knock down trash talking clowns so often that my arm was sore the next day. Lol.

Meeting the R family’s new dog before personal training to keep these girls ready for volleyball!  Such a cute, pudgy little gal with sharp puppy teeth.  Awwwww.

We’ve been sleeping in a bit too much. Lol.

Our June Activity Days activity was tie dying shirts (here’s the before picture with hopefully an after pic in July) and water play in our back yard. Three hours went by fast and the girls are always grateful that Sister B brings great treats.

And of course it wouldn’t be a proper summer post without some baseball photos. Because competitive baseball means baseball whenever you are in town and sometimes even when you are not. But I’ll save traveling baseball for the next post.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
