Finishing February

I got a kick out of watching Danny having to take individual and team photos before this game. He put on a grin that got a laugh from his teammates. Definitely not taking his 7th grade rec basketball phots seriously. He does take his game seriously, though. This was a pretty frustrating game for him but they still won the entire game. He even made it to the 4th quarter without fouling!  It was so hard to be out of town for two of his games.  Grandma and Grandpa reported he played really well and got plenty of fouls. Lol.

Pictures like this Natalie’s teacher sends melts my heart. Only the room moms are allowed to be at the class parties now so I love seeing her happy and have memories to place in her annual scrapbook.

“Turtle Blankets”

It was REALLY hard to miss one of Kate’s three day tournaments. I didn’t even know about it until we were in Pheonix for her first out of state tournament. I almost canceled our Disney trip right then and there. This one was close by and her teammate, H, and her mom, S, offered to have Kate spend the tournament weekend with them at their house, which was almost half an hour closer to the venue than our house was. They still had to wake up really early to drive and be there on time but it all worked out. The came home with 1st place in the Bronze division!

I was grateful to see pictures and beyond delighted to watch a video of the game winning point with Kate being the last one to touch the ball on her team.  So much joy for those girls to stick it out until the very end.

Hubby took Kate and the teammate she had stayed with while we were out of town to their next tournament the last weekend of February as well. It was a super long day waking up around 5am and getting home around 6pm. They had some very tough competition and lost their crossover for 3rd Place 23-25. Definitely not the outcome they wanted after a 1st place finish last weekend. But I know they will show up ready to win at their next tournament and work hard like always.  So proud of this team.

I was so proud of Danny being willing to play basketball in front of the entire school the last Friday in February and so glad it had been postponed from when I was going to be in Disney World. The student vs. staff game had incredible energy and both teams wanted to win. I felt so grateful to be there in the gym watching and liked the co-ed and all ages of players brought together.  It was a close game with the principal scoring a basket just 10 seconds before the buzzer to pull ahead and win.  Danny wasn’t used to playing with that size of basketball and didn’t put on his basketball shoes and was not satisfied with how he played. But the next day was the last rec center basketball game of the season and Danny informed us he was going to revenge play his way to 20 points. Hubby and I had a grand time watching him meet and exceed his goal while still playing smart and being a good teammate. Danny gave his all and finished the season happy to have been on such a great team. More than one of those boys, including Danny, expressed they were sad the season was so short. Luckily some of those teammates are also on Danny’s baseball team so that should make spring easier on him.  Actually, before that last basketball game, he had attended a pitching clinic with five of the other boys on his baseball team and was clocked as pitching 65 mph. I wasn’t surprised when he announced his shoulder was sore at breakfast the next day. I am glad these coaches are willing to let him try pitching even though they already have some really good pitchers on their team. I’m looking forward to watching baseball games again even though I will miss watching his basketball team too.

And not to leave Michelle out, I signed her up for the middle school track and field team today.  I’m looking forward to seeing her enjoy running for her school!

Oh! And we celebrated the dog’s birthday!  She is now 3 years old and is calming down quite nicely.  We have hope for her yet! Lol.  Michelle made her a really nice treat that was devoured before we got a picture but I promise we are grateful for this sweet, soft, kinda dumb dog of ours. Home is where the dog is!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
