Christmas Card '21

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Hubby continues to do amazing things in his career, most of which he isn’t allowed to tell me about.  Sometimes I worry that he’s so good at keeping secrets.  He also does wonderful things at home and you seriously should be jealous of the sound system he created for his truck this year.  Hubby is definitely the preferred parent for driving children to and from activities.

I am loving helping out at 3 of my 4 children’s school from 9am-4pm as a special ed para.  I don’t love trying to get everything done that I used to do with 7 less hours in the day to do them.  In fact, I’ve now been diagnosed with IBS so chug fiber drinks and swallow enzymes every time I eat.  I still love serving in Primary after all these years but am beginning to think they need to pay me now that I work with kids at a real job.  lol.

Kate is getting ready for high school in all the ways you would expect.  She is keeping her grades up and joined the travel team for her volleyball club so will begin traveling to out of state for tournaments beginning in January ’22.  Her brother tells me she has great Snapchat stats and the two of them can even be found hanging out with other middle schoolers together.

Danny has goals and works hard to achieve them.  He successfully drives most of his teachers crazy by almost falling over in his chair every period of every day except for PE.  He worked really hard to move from 12U to 13U baseball, has goals to be full time A team material for the middle school basketball team next year and is looking forward to rec basketball with a friend of his beginning in January.

Michelle is rocking her first year of middle school and the counselor and I actually had a little chat with her about how she doesn’t have to have a 4.0 GPA but she keeps getting straight A’s anyway.  She enjoys being a part of the middle school orchestra playing her viola, joined BSA and still dances hip hop.  Michelle is looking forward to graduating from Primary and beginning Young Women’s at Church in January.  I will miss all her help with the Activity Days girls and am grateful Natalie will still be there with me.

Natalie is our favorite elementary schooler and has had the best teachers.  This year for 3rd grade she gets to have her 1st grade teacher again (yay!) and her very favorite friend in her class to boot.  She is constantly appreciated for her positive attitude, fun and kind personality, and good work ethic at school, while playing softball, and at home.  Natalie still give the best hugs in the world as well.  I am looking forward to her continuing to just be her this next year.

Maisie now has weekly sleepovers at my parent’s house with her sister, Piper, so that she is not left home alone every day and so that I don’t have to run home on my lunch break to check up on her 5 days a week (now only 4 days/week).  Both dogs are behaving much better since being separated about a year ago and my mom loves having a dog again.  My dad loves my mom so puts up with the dog too.  Awwww.  My mom and Hubby have really stepped up to help me work at the middle school and my dad was working Monday - Friday, volunteering on Saturday mornings, and began doing genealogy talks again but then got injured and had to take a leave of absence.  Here's to hoping 2022 will be full of more positive adventures for everyone!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
