8 is Great!

I am so grateful for this wonderful girl and happy we got to celebrate her turning 8 years old.  The one and only thing she asked for (other than a party with her friends) was PEZ refills.  Luckily we were able to find some more things that made her smile but it definitely was her favorite gift.  Natalie didn't want to wait until summer to have her birthday party this year so we planned an entirely outdoor softball themed party and hoped the weather would be nice enough to enjoy.  Luckily these Colorado kids don't mind 50*s and breezy at all.  Natalie had a great time with her delightful friends and I'm so glad she didn't have to wait.  I have loved being Natalie's mom and look forward to seeing what the next year brings for her.

As luck would have it, Michelle's dance performance time in Denver ended up being at the same time as Natalie's birthday party.  Luckily Hubby could come home early from work and take her to her competition in Denver.  Hip Hop earned the Ruby award and she and Hubby celebrated with sushi.
The next day was National Sibling Day and Danny, Michelle, Natalie and I went for a long dog walk with perfect weather.  Later Kate, Michelle and Natalie got to go to Zoey and Bryn's birthday party.  While they were gone we went to the landfill to get rid of the rest of our Ikea sofa that we finally decided needed to be removed after being a part of the former art room that had turned kids hangout.  The hangout really wasn't getting used and in anticipation of Hubby's parents coming to visit for Natalie's baptism I finally got to turn it into a guest bedroom like I have wanted since we cleaned out the art room.  The camel saddle gets to see the light of day for the first time in who knows how long and I moved the portraits of my mother and uncle to  the room because I remember them hanging up in my grandparents' guest bedroom when they lived in River Falls.  Although the guest bedroom won't be used much I'm sure, it's so nice to know it's there and will be much easier to keep looking nice than an art room or a kids hangout.
Also on Saturday Shelly texted me saying that a drive through vaccine clinic about 40 minutes away had 2,600 doses for the day and only 1,000 people had signed up for appointments.  I had been trying to find a place near us to get my vaccine so we jumped at the chance to go get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine so we could be one and done.  I had a sore arm and headache the next morning but poor Hubby had fever and chills and slept horribly along with the sore arm.  He had to stay in bed pretty much the entire next day so I teased him it was a man cold sort of thing.  Luckily he knows I adore him so took it with a smile, which was my intended result.  Not the most romantic date but better than the landfill earlier that day.  lol.
Danny's baseball games are now in full swing (ha) and it's great to watch the boys play again and be around the other moms on the team.  Natalie also got to begin her softball practices and was so happy to do so.  I look forward to much more time at the ball fields this spring and summer!  I just love being outdoors and watching my children have a good time.  I wish it was easier to watch Michelle dance and be allowed to watch Kate's volleyball tournaments!  We are pretty busy around here in April but in a good way!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
