Bricks, Ball, and Summer Fun

Sometimes junk mail works and when your son sees the DMNS has The Art of the Brick visiting, you renew your membership and reserve a day and tickets to go. We had a blast and discovered that we can wear masks for six hours minus taking them off to eat lunch.  Nice to know.  We highly recommended going and seeing the amazing art that can be created with toys. It was inspiring and so good to be back in a place I have been taking my children since they were babies.  P.S. Pictured is my favorite - the pop up book that had a great poem with it about the girl in the boat sailing around the moat.
These girls together watching their brothers makes my heart happy. It was also a joy to have M over for a play date with my M too. I just love the parents on D’s baseball team. They are smart and kind and friendly and talented. I’m grateful I get to hang out with them sometimes just because my son is a wonderful kid.
Natalie informed me I’m only allowed to take pictures of her when she’s running at her softball games. That girl has hustle while in the field too. I’m so proud of her giving her all at trying something new. She is enjoying having something to do this summer and I love watching those girls play. It has been one of the best parts of summer for me.  As a side note, I'm not allowed to video Danny anymore either.  My camera is his bad luck charm!
Michelle helped me take our doggies to the groomer. I think we got our money’s worth out of these summer dos.  lol.
Some days are for running in the sprinklers.  I feel grateful to live in such a beautiful place with the people I love.

I wanted to add this picture of Hubby watching Natalie play softball. It was on a day when he joined us at the ball field after an especially hard day at work.  I know he was tired and frustrated and hungry but he showed up for his daughter anyway. I told him it would be ok for him to head home but he stayed. I love this man more than I let on.
My boy gives his team his all. One Saturday after a double header Danny fell asleep in my minivan on the way home. I grabbed a picture of him on the driveway. He’s growing up so fast but he’s still so young. I couldn’t be prouder of this guy.
My birthday presents arrived early!  Our 8 year old IKEA sofa and coffee table literally fell apart and I spent hours and hours (just ask Hubby) shopping online for something to replace it with.  I ended up with light gray again because I didn’t want to repaint the living room or change the rug and I am so pleased with what showed up on our door. Burrow for the win!  It only took us half an hour to put together a king sized sofa and two armchairs. Burrow is brilliant. The chaise can go in any of the 4 spots on the sofa and I’m saying it again, so easy to put together. The email and text communication was just right too. Now if it lasts more than 8 years I’ll be even more thrilled.  My only regret is that I bought a cheap coffee table from somewhere else instead of buying the one I really wanted from Burrow. Hubby teased that this one is so cheap it won’t last long and then I can lay down the dough for the Burrow one. Lol.
We had a night when I couldn’t get ahold of the neighbor she was playing with’s babysitter Natalie was playing with and she misses a softball practice (to say I panicked is a understatement) and another day when Danny was almost late to baseball practice because he didn’t make it back from the dirt trail biking with friends as soon as I wanted him to. So, now these 3 are using an old phone of mine and I bought the oldest Apple Watch the Apple Store still sells for them to wear.  No more being late to or missing practices for us!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
