Game Time + Special Events

We’ve survived the coldest month of the year once again. Volleyball tournaments, basketball games, gearing up for Girl Scout cookie sales, orthodontist appointments, hip hop, lots of sick days, taking care of and cleaning up after our puppies and Hubby’s birthday stand out to me as I look back.
We were late to our first ever cookie rally because we were playing at the park and meeting the new student in M’s class, but she was still able earn two Junior badges and win a prize at the rally.  I call that a win!
My guys had a good start to their basketball season with winning both of their games in January. My son is really liking his first time being on a basketball team and is looking forward to the rest of the season.  D is loving the fact that his dad is the coach!
The day we realized our smaller puppy is the same height as our 6.5 year old.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day the guys went skiing/snowboarding at Winter Park and loved it.  D was pretty surprised to hear that my dad had taken me skiing there when I was in high school.  I don't think he could picture his Grandpa Ted skiing!
Hubby took K to her first tournament this year and I lucked out and got to take her to Colorado Springs the last weekend of January.  We ate dinner at the entertaining Fargo’s Pizza and swam at the hotel pool with two other families on her team staying there too. At the volleyball party the Friday before they created team cheers and really seemed to be enjoying each other. It was a joy to watch them play and I was so proud of Kate. And it turns out she and I are pretty darn good at playing Heads Up in the car and there were lots of laughs on the drive down even though I could never take a turn giving clues. I’m glad to have the opportunity to laugh with my middle schooler!
Phase one of braces complete!  Once M’a braces were off we were supposed to come back in a few hours to pick up her retainers. Since her orthodontist is so far away (long story), we watched Frozen 2 in the theater and ate lunch at Smashburger, had Menchie’s for dessert, got her retainers and were in time to pick up siblings at the elementary school like normal.  It was a pretty awesome mommy daughter date.  In other news, this girl finished reading the 3rd Harry Potter book and started Goblet of Fire. She’s trying to finish all the books by October. It’s pretty fun to check on my middle children and see them both reading HP (D is on book 7).  I’m getting very excited to take them to Universal Studios Orlando this fall!

These cute puppies are only allowed in the back yard when they are hooked up to leads which were wrapped around the two ends of our picnic table. Hubby had wanted to take it to the landfill last fall and now it will be easier to transport that next free dump day thanks to both of them pulling real hard and collapsing the entire thing. N and I had some fun using the broken pieces as a see saw!

Heather’s surprise birthday dinner at Outback with a dozen of us from our ward before the N. family moves to Utah. We will miss them!
Turns out we are still celebrating half birthdays at our house. I guess the kids don’t want to give up the chance to pick a special dessert every 6 months. Happy 12.5, K! We love you, beautiful and talented girl!
My wonderful husband had a real birthday as well. We got to eat yummy food at a restaurant we had never been to inside Hotel Boulderado.  It was so nice to sit and talk with just the two of us in such a charming location. I am totally in love with this man. I am so glad he was born and that the stars aligned for us to be together forever.  I have to thank my mother for babysitting a sick M so that he and I didn't have to cancel our birthday lunch date!
Lastly, Hubby and my only son went to the Jazz/Nuggets game with the Nelson guys and D got his Donovan Mitchell basketball shoes signed by Donovan Mitchell! (and a couple other players I can't remember the names of ).  It was hard for my guys to wake up for school and work the next morning but going to the game was totally worth it!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
