Fist City 2019

It was very difficult to leave Hubby's work and my new puppies behind but we knew my mom loved the dogs already and that our children would never forgive us if we missed out of one of the epic family reunions we could enjoy.  So off we set to St. George, Utah to the very same house we stayed in over Presidents' Day weekend back when N was a little girl that came down with pre-pneumonia when we stopped at the Grand Canyon on our way to that reunion.  Once again M would miss the last half day of school so that we wouldn't have to wait any longer to join cousins, aunts, uncles & S. grandparents in a large rented vacation home complete with swimming pools.  The weather was so wonderful that we spent many hours enjoying the outdoor pool but we also set out to hike and spend a day at the reservoir.  B & S's family really know how to have a blast on and round the water.  Between them and J & C's family we had a boat to take us tubing, a Razor to take rides on the rocks, and paddle boards.  As I reflect on our summer, I think my favorite day of the entire time off school was the day we spent at the reservoir with the Fist City crew!

D celebrated his 10th birthday will the clan and took it pretty well when one of his cousins blew out his birthday candles for him.  During out stay we also had a guys morning golfing and a girls night out to see the When You Wish show.  So much fun!  I think my children have the best of both worlds -- an amazing extended family with lots of cousins their age, fun aunts and uncles, and then they get to come home to being the only grandchildren on my side with extra help and TLC when we need it.  I am so grateful we were able to attend!
After a wonderful stay with Hubby's family he needed to fly to CA for work so we drove to Las Vegas and spent a couple days there and he flew out from there while I drove the children home.  We did indoor skydiving (fun to try but I'm not rearing to go back), saw dolphins and tigers at the Mirage, spent too much money at the M&M store, D got a new hat at the Hershey Store, and we absolutely loved staying at Tahiti Village.  The children asked us why we didn't stay longer!  I am so glad I decided to stop at Cove Fort.  It was only a mile out off the interstate and I was sick of driving and it is a little gem.  The full time senior missionaries were absolutely wonderful and I felt like we learned so much.  It made me miss President Hinckley greatly too.  He'll always be my favorite prophet.  I was grateful that I already had a hotel room reserved in CO so that we could break up the drive.  K had an orthodontist appointment we really didn't want to miss so that she could get her braces off in July.  We came home hot and tired and so happy that we went.  We are already looking forward to Fist City 2020, which will include our family's first trip to Yellowstone!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
