Maisie and Piper

One thing that was great about New Orleans is that I didn’t cry about Meigo while we were gone. Coming home was great to see my children and parents again but every time I was home alone I would cry again. It soon became apparent that the children and I needed a puppy. I searched and searched for a dog that didn’t shed that was excellent with children. I decided the only type of dog I wanted was a Portuguese Water Dog. The woman I felt good about didn’t have any puppies available but had a friend in southeast CO that did. She and I texted and when she sent us picture and descriptions of the 3 little girls she had, suddenly we had named two out of three of them and wanted to bring them home as soon as we could.

We named the white PWD Maisie Ann and the black one Piper Disney. Maisie was described as calm and snuggly and so we began calling her Lazy Maisie and Piper was described as playful and full of energy so she has been Hyper Piper. We scheduled to pick them up on Sunday afternoon and all 6 of us went shopping for supplies at Murdoch’s and PetSmart on Saturday. After going to church (I got to sub primary again) we came home, changed clothes, ate and got in the van. The children watched Hotel for Dogs to help pass the time. I am so grateful to Nicole for these wonderful little girls. We are totally in love!
Although they got car sick on the way to meeting us they did great on the ride home. They really liked the blanket K brought and the ultra soft mat I brought along and slept most of the way home. We had a hard time finding a treat they would like to begin training them but they caught on to the fact that if they came and sat by our feet they would get petted.  Luckily I had leftover chicken breast one night from dinner and oh, my word, they love that stuff!  We are working on come, sit, stay and potty training and some days seem to be better than others.

Below are some notes from the first week of having them in our home:

5/20/19:
D and N had me walk the puppies to the school and when we said goodbye at the fence Piper started whining and wanted to follow them. I had to carry her away. So cute! Then, when we came home Maisie started whining when she realized there were no children to play with.

I took Maisie with me to pick up N from kindergarten and she insisted on climbing to the front seat and sitting on my lap the drive over. She was more than happy to be in the back with N there, though.

5/21/19:
Maisie and Piper followed me everywhere I went in the house today except when they were sleeping or playing with each other. I had to be careful not to trip over them. It was pretty entertaining.

Today when I was making dinner Piper whimpered and care over to me, looking miserable. She had the hiccups so I picked her up and she was much happier.

5/23/19:
The puppies decided to help me unload the dishwasher and make my son’s bed.
They also help me clean up their accidents by trying to chew on the paper towels I’m using.  It was much more comical than helpful. Maisie also discovered she could get to me easier if she climbed onto the sofa and then the sofa table — uh oh. In good news, Piper asked to be let outside and then went pee. Hopefully she’s getting the idea now!

P.S.  These puppies have turned our world upside-down and I would like to blame them completely for my blog being two months out of date.  (:

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
