What a surprise to have two and a half inches of snow 2 days before the last day of school for most of my children. Things like Field Day and D’s baseball practice and game were canceled and I worried about the campsite we had rented in the mountains for Memorial Day weekend. But as I was telling another mom at school today, I am not worried about middle school or 1st grade, as of this month! If you had asked me in April I still would have been very concerned about those huge transitions for my oldest and youngest girls but after meeting with K’s middle school counselor and attending the rookie parent night I am so excited for K. I think she will really like it there and will do great! And N seemed to decide while Hubby and I were out of town that she could and wanted to be more independent. She’s got some of that 6 year old sass starting to show too so I feel like she is going to be just fine in 1st grade. D is happy to continue at the public school for 5th grade and I think he’ll have a lot of fun with things like Young Ameritowne and being in the oldest grade in the school. M is looking forward to attending the Waldorf school again next year for 4th grade but she still has two weeks of school left. Hopefully by then there will be no more snow!
In May we had M’s May Faire, D's baseball opening day and at my book club we discussed the brilliant novel Homegoing and it was so neat that K.W. has actually been to the castle. D had his Cub Scout graduation amidst us laying down two full truck loads of wood chips in the yard. He’s all done with Muy Thai now so that makes Saturdays and M’s horse back riding lessons easier — and of course baseball when his games begin. We also got to have s’mores with some of the girls and boys and staff we will be attending Girl Scout Day Camp with in June. I was glad I brought my winter coat!

I felt so loved on Mother’s Day. M and N brought me breakfast and I had so many nice cards to look at and little gifts and my Primary children got up and sang in Sacrament meeting. And the next day Hubby footed the bill for our windows to be professionally cleaned. I loved it so much I didn’t put the blinds down for days.
N’s kindergarten concert was adorable and M was sweet enough to come with me to support her. It was only three songs long but totally worth dressing up for. She had such a good, nice peer group in her class and I couldn’t be more pleased.
Hubby and D went on a Father and Sons camp out but since I was home with the girls there is no photographic evidence. Of course, I didn’t take any pictures of us painting nails and watching a movie either. We did have a tender mercy that same Saturday with M’s horse riding lesson. The horse she often rides, Sox, and M looks liked they were snuggling when they were waiting their turn to come into the stables. I didn’t have my phone and told M I wished a camera. Luckily her instructor overheard me and took this lovely photo, which she texted to me. Later that same day Sox had a massive stroke and died. I was so grateful to have this precious photo, especially since I knew when M was told what happened there would be tears. And there were.
We had our last Activity Days meeting of the school year and an awards ceremony and bridging for my Girl Scout Troop. Such a great group of girls! I am already looking forward to GS Day Camp at Kiwa and our AD Day Camp at my house. We are also camping with the Girl Scouts and have our Aquarium Overnight to look forward to before the troop disbands and the girls move on to doing other things. I loved the notes and gifts some of the parents have me. It makes me feel like I contributed something to someone. The same day as bridging Hubby and I got to watch M perform in her spring strings concert. I'm still very happy about her fingering. (:

K finished 6 years of elementary school with a “5th Grade Continuation Ceremony.” Each teacher took turns saying something nice about the 75+ students in her grade as they got a nice certificate and photo in a folder. Then 5th graders who wanted to have speeches. Then there was a slide show and doing a lap around the school giving high 5s to the other students. K walked but refused to put out a hand to the other kids. Our 1st grade neighbor asked her why after school and she said it was because she didn’t want to. K is very ready for middle school and I’m so grateful for her teacher, Ms. S., helping her get to that point this year. We’re proud of you, K! You’re going to rock 6th grade!
D happily finished 4th grade. It was quite the year and I am thrilled with how well his marvelous teacher, Mrs. W., and his great classmates helped him want to go to school every day and try his best. N finished kindergarten as the last group of children in the state without full day kindergarten. I’m so glad she could do half day kindergarten like her siblings. I will miss my lunch buddy lots next year! M still has a couple weeks of school left but she was excited about her siblings’ last day of school because she got to take a field trip to her Spanish teacher’s farm. She had a wonderful day and came home very happy. That night we celebrated by renting “How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World.” I stayed upstairs with N watching Yolanda G. cake videos since we thought the movie would make her cry. She didn’t mind a bit and really wishes I would spend days on end making cakes!
We had planned back in February to go camping in the mountains over Memorial Day weekend but realized between the almost freezing and wet weather and all that is going on at Hubby’s work right now it was worth paying the $10 cancellation fee. M cried and made me promise the children could go camping in the back yard. We’ve never actually done that before. Our daughters set up tents in our backyard and D and three of the neighborhood boys set up in the pocket park. After tons of outdoor play in nice weather and a bbq dinner and s’mores they spent the entire night out there. I slept on the sofa with the window open, back door unlocked, and a puppy snuggled next to me (more on that later). In the morning they were happy to keep playing outside together and begged to spend another night outside but the weather forecast says it wouldn’t be as fun this time around. Luckily the E. family invited us to their bbq so the children could have more fun to look forward to and have. I’m so glad they could create happy memories together and with the neighbors. I truly love our home and the wonderful people near us.

Canceling our camping trip also meant we were able to go to Eric R.'s graduation party that we thought we would have to miss. It was so wonderful to see friends we haven't seen for a long time. There will always be a special place in my heart for the LHC Ward. Hubby and I were also able to hire a babysitter so we could eat at Jai Thai (so yummy!), go see the Ansel Adams exhibit at the Longmont Museum, and make a quick Target run.
