Our 3 1st Days of School

When I was asked when the children started school, I would reply, "August 15th, 17th & 29th."  Once again this year I will be dealing with 3 different schedules between the public school, the Waldorf school, and N's half day schedule.  I suppose I'm just a glutton for punishment because it would be a whole lot cheaper to put N in full day kindergarten and have no Waldorf school to deal with.  But what is right is right and we try to do what is best for each of our children, whether it is convenient or not.  So far K and N are loving their first weeks of school.  They both have really good friends in their classes and have magnificent teachers and are just plain happy.  N is counting down the days, however, until she can have me all to herself in the afternoons while her 3 older siblings are in school.
Here is a picture of N watching D mow the lawn.  He didn't really want to do it but decided for the $15 and begging I did he finally would.  The children have had to really help out while Hubby is working and I have a sprained foot and a hurt wrist.  Hurt wrist, you ask?  Well, the day before N's first day of school I took these 3 to a fun center where we played mini golf and rode go karts and earned 599 tickets at the arcade.  I then slammed my wrist in our sliding mini van door.  And then I passed out.  Since I was already going to get my foot checked on, I had the orthopedic check the wrist too.  Not broken either but now I get to wear a brace for 2 weeks but luckily I don't need the boot anymore.  So I'm trading one thing for another and having more than one friend threaten to wrap me in bubble wrap since you'll still find me limping at times. We had the opportunity to help clean D & M's future classroom for a couple hours one Saturday.  My dad, Hubby, D and M and I worked hard while my mom helped by watching K and N for us.  Snarf's afterwards was a great treat and then we got to go to the annual Stake Carnival.  I promise K and D were there too (K even brought her friend C) but they were too busy sneaking lots of cotton candy and snow cones to hang around me.  lol.

I loved attending A's bridal shower.  So many of these woman have touched my lives for many many years and it was a joy to be around them, especially for such a happy occasion.  Congrats, A & L!
My birthday weekend was pretty great with dinner at Red Robin with my parents and family -- lots of laughs, camping with D's Cub Scout Den (his den leader did such a great job planning), and playing at a great park in Lyons for M's friend, A's, birthday.  We also had a blast at a combined ward pool party (thanks for getting our ward invited, B) and my youngest and I spent all afternoon making GF/DF cut out cookies (thanks for the recipe King Arthur Flour).  I'm sure I should say something grand about my goals and dreams for the upcoming year now that I've had a birthday but honestly, I'm just taking it day by day, week by week right now!

In the mornings it was my Irish Twins and I while my oldest and youngest were in school.  We did things like run errands and practice string instruments and clean the house for book club (Station Eleven -- which I was supposed to host in June but my house flooded that day) and movie night (ladies over again to watch "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" since we read the book).  They are great children and I truly enjoy seeing how well they get along.  Hopefully they will still like each other after being in the same class this school year!  Here's the picture from their first day.  Not pictured:  how Hubby came back for their instruments we didn't send with them because our family didn't get the email.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
