Dancing & Day Camps

K wouldn't let us take any pictures of her the day of her impressive recital so I was very glad I had already paid for the professional photos.  Below is a picture of her fan club, three of whom say they want to start dancing at her studio too!  I knew K was nervous and I was so happy for her when she pulled it off perfectly that I literally had tears in my eyes.  I couldn't have been a happier momma in that moment.
D went to the 2 day Cub Scout day camp at our church again with me spending one of the days as a volunteer.  It was kind of funny that the 3 moms in charge of the 16 Webalos that day all shared the same last name!  While D was at day camp, M got to play with her friend, A., from her class at school.  We also had the Activity Days girls over to watch "The Greatest Showman," picked up more glasses at Target (before it was set fire and closed down for weeks!), and D had another cello lesson.

We also had great fun celebrating Hubby on Father's Day.  We love him more than words can say!!!

M's first viola lesson was a huge success.  I am grateful for a teacher that lets me take pictures and videos of the right things to do since I am so forgetful!

While Hubby went to Boy Scout camp as a member of the YM presidency and K had a sleepover at my parents' house, M, N, D and I had a sleepover of sorts in my room.  This set up actually came in handy when it came time for water damage, but that's for another post.

Girl Scout Day Camp week was a blast!  Every day I was there (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday this year) N and D got to come along with M and I.  N was with the Daisy unit and had marvelous leaders that show no matter how old you are or how many appendages you have, you can still have fun like a Scout.  The boys' leader was the same one as last year and I hope he never stops being their unit leader!  The kids really want me to be a unit leader next year so D can be there all 5 days.  Somehow I think K would like getting babysat by my mom for an entire week too!  My mom would take her to her swimming lesson (same great teacher as last summer!) and then they would have fun until it was time for us to come home.  They are 2 peas in a pod, my mom and my oldest!

Crazy hat day was a success for these 2!  One leader even turned M's hat into a meme and posted it online.

Broom hockey at it's finest

Crazy hair day as the grand finale and we already have next year's GS day camp on the calendar!  If it's one thing Girl Scouts has on Cub Scouts, it's a camp like this where teenagers plan and carry out almost the entire week and we adults get to be there just for legal reasons.  I hope those PAs are proud of themselves and realize they pulled off something amazing!

Another thing I liked about GS Camp was seeing people I hadn't seen since last summer and picking up right where we left off.  It was so much easier for me to relearn the girls' names and I enjoyed meeting new leaders too.  Something that stood out to me was a comment I made about not exercising.  The leader said that I seemed like the healthy type.  That got me thinking and I looked at the Health app on my phone.  Last week I averaged 2.4 miles of walking daily and that doesn't even include all the times I didn't have my phone in my pocket.  Then I look at my calendar and understand I don't have time to not be active!  Yes, I may not officially exercise, but I'm no couch potato either. Also during camp week, N tried out a soccer class with her friends Z & A and can't wait to go back.  There were only 2 other children in the class and they had a lot of fun.  Dan also took K, D and N to the post adoption support group pool party while M had a sleepover at my parents' house and I went grocery shopping and reorganized things like our cubby area.  (Both necessary due to water damage.  Am I building suspense here?) I am grateful we live in a county where we can do fun things together with other families who have adopted children as well.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
