Cookie Invasion -- I mean, February 2018

February brought some love.  Love of babies, Chick-Fil-A...

learning to do the human knot at Activity Days and play dates with preschool friends (actually lots of playing with friends for all 4 children)...

sweet sisters doing hair, and the cookie invasion!

Thank goodness most of these cases got taken by other members of the troop.  Here is what M decided she would sell this year.  I warned her that I may not have time to help her sell all those, but as it turns out, having an entire week off school during cookie season really helps you reach your goals!

GF/DF cookies at Activity Days after learning about service (my turn to plan and carry out), and D's picture from after the Bears raced at the Pinewood Derby.  This year I helped at check in and it was quite fun.  I also roped our neighbors, M & C to be the craftsmanship judges and they were kind enough to forgive me.  (;

We were so excited about M's 1st place finish in the sibling category that we forgot to take a picture of her, but here's her car & her gold medal!  She is excited to see how this car holds up to the competition at Districts!

Hubby's parents were able to join in on all that Pinewood Derby action with some pizza between the two cars racing.  It was great to have them here a couple days.

After being so sad that dough I made for Activity Days wasn't for them, we had to have our own cookie party at home.  Like we needed more cookies in our home!  lol.

Happy Valentines Day from the loot the kids brought home and the dog!

M's class play was absolutely magical.  I'm so glad the other children had off school and that all 4 grandparents were there so everyone could watch.  M was so excited and thrilled how it turned out.

I did mention lots of play dates.  Sometimes we don't want those play dates to end, especially if it's with someone who hasn't been able to come over lately.

D earned money shoveling snow and promptly bought GS cookies from his sister.  What a good brother!

On President's Day we convinced Hubby to take off work and come play with us.  Between the trampoline park and new bowling center in town, we had a great day!

I did mention lots of play dates at our house....

Meet our newest pet:  a Betta named Jackson "Jack" Indigo.  He was a reward for M and N doing so well wearing their orthodontic devices while they sleep.  We have seen huge progress in M's alignment since the last time we were in and couldn't be more thrilled.  And as of January, N's payments are complete.  Celebrate!

M and I on the way to one of our cookie booths.  She loves cookie sales.  Me, on the other hand, it makes me question why I'm a GS leader.

N's friend M tuned 5 and my M and N loved her unicorn dance party.  Later that night Hubby and I got to go out with friends for the annual stake adult activity.  I was so tired from all our stuff going on that I enjoyed watching other people spending calories.  Seriously, I have fallen asleep 4 times putting children to bed lately.

Super silly cake time at the end of our 8 is Great for our ward (hosted at our house this year)!  These kiddos are pretty excited to be able to get baptized this year!  Hubby needs a thank you for finishing the cake in the shape of an 8 while I dealt with more GS cookie stuff!

After D's den meeting in our basement on Thursday (where is was happy to earn his whittling chip), the 8 is Great on Sunday & 2 different GS meetings on Monday, I am very happy we finished off our basement!  This time for the 2nd graders my dad came to help finish off the Home Scientist badge, which also helped D finish is Super Science belt loop, which helped him finish his Nova Out of This World Award.  Gotta love multitasking!

K also went on 2 field trips: one to the county fairgrounds to learn about farming and to the state capitol building, which I was sad I couldn't go along to.   Here is one of the many neat pictures her teacher posted on FB.  Hopefully I can go next year with D!

Speaking of D, he loved his dodgeball class this February and is going to begin breakdancing in March.  Many times when there is a girl invasion, you can find him at neighbors' houses, especially the ones that have one sister or less.  (;  He's also been reading HP -- The Chamber of Secrets and is almost done.  K, D, and N all had parent teacher conferences and they are all doing well.  I am grateful for their wonderful teachers and staff and the parent volunteers.  (While M had off school she even came and helped me volunteer in N's classroom, which meant taking down snowmen in the hallway.  She's good with a staple puller now!  It was so nice having her home but she loves her new school so much I was glad she only had one week off.)

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
