Halloween 17

Now that was a birthday party!  The founder of Girl Scouts was born on Halloween and we had all 15 girls in our troop together to celebrate.  Games, songs, cupcakes, and 3 badges finished off!

Carving our little pumpkins from the farm.  The kids did so well this year -- they are growing up so fast and I'm so proud of them.

These pictures are from Friday night.  K planned to go to volleyball while the rest of us went to D's Scout Pack party.  He's a Bear this year and his den was working on Grin & Bear It so I said it was the one year we had to go.  Then, after D insisted it only be he and I there, I let it slip the Ward Trunk or Treat was that night.  So Hubby ended up taking all 3 girls there while D and I went to the pack party.  It was so much fun to match my son!  (We are Jyn Erso and a Death Trooper from Rogue One.)  Imagine my delight when my boy said he wanted to be a Death Trooper for Halloween and these Rogue One costumes were only $9 a piece at the Disney Store!

M as an Archer. We ordered her toy bow off Etsy and have been loving it.  She originally wanted to be Evie from Descendants but chose something she could wear to her Waldorf school instead.  After pouring on a costume catalog for days, this is what she decided on and I thought it was perfect considering archery was her favorite activity at Cub Scout camp this summer.
After D's pack party, we went to his best friend's house to party some more.  Our lovely hostess took this picture.  H and I had to laugh because of all the years we have been neighbors, both at our old house and our new house, we think this is the only picture we have of us together! (And as a bonus we have J in the middle.)

Saturday we took the kids to Which Which for the first time after K's game and errands (where we did NOT buy a 4K projector but did buy plenty of pants for K and I).  N's favorite part was the M&Ms in her favorite color.

All Saturday afternoon was spent on yard work, but this doesn't look like work, does it?  Our maple tree finally has enough leaves to rake into a jumping pile.  Hooray!  The weather was perfect, too.  We got the west side and back yard done -- too bad for the neighbors to the east of us.

Sunday after church we went to the free exhibit about Day of the Dead, which M was learning about in Spanish class.  It was neat to look at the different displays and the children insisted Hubby and I contribute to the dog one & write something about our first dogs, Harry & Cocoa.  Making sugar skulls was pretty easy too but taking a group picture afterwards was a little harder.  lol.

Monday morning N had her preschool party and then we brought her friend E home since his mom was coming home from a trip that day.  All smiles and fun!  Her teacher's costumes were just the best.  They were Elmer's glue, a paint set (which you can kind of see behind her in this photo) and a box of crayons (on the far right).

Here's Mal, complete with hair dye on Halloween morning!  I've never dyed her hair before but she was happy with the results.  Descendants music has certainly been at the top of the request list lately and it even pops up with the Disney Halloween playlist on Apple Music.  We girls watched the dance tutorials and tried to learn some moves from the song Wicked especially.  We can get the moves down until you turn it up to full speed.  No wonder those actors spend weeks practicing for each song!

N & I decided to go to the public library for trick or treating like last year -- here's a picture with R, who introduced it to us.  And 2 of N's favorite preschool friends happened to be there too.  People loved her astronaut costume and one of the staff members actually put it up on the library FB page.  If you look back at her birthday picture 6 months ago, you'll see N has been planning this for half a year, so it was fun for so many people to tell her they liked it.  I wore my Nasa t-shirt so I could be her official fan.  (If you want to know what I look like without make-up on, here it is!)  We also happened to have the opportunity to recreate a pumpkin patch picture from when C, N, and M were babies.  This time they are old enough to all look at the camera and smile.  (:

Papa Murphy's Jack-o-latern pizza is a must on Halloween, especially when there won't be much time to eat!  M had an early release day, so N and I picked up and baked pizza just in time to pick her up.  Then Grandpa came to babysit the two of them while I went to help with D's class party.

His teacher made this guess who game that was simply adorable!

I was in charge of broom ball this year.  I dressed up as Jyn again to match him but he decided his costume was too hot.   lol.  One of the perks of being at the school during the parties is that when you attend the parade in the morning and don't get a good picture of your oldest daughter and her best friend in their matching Mal & Evie costumes, you can ask another parent to take a great picture for you.  I will forever be grateful to C for changing K's mind from being a poop emoji this year.  lol.

Both my parents helped our family on Halloween because my mom went and help set up for Halloween Journey for me.  She helped decorate the Blue Bell classroom and it was beautiful.  M said Halloween Journey was her favorite part of Halloween.  From the school website:  The "campus is transformed into a magical world through which children and parents may travel. The individual presentations touch hearts with messages of wisdom and humor, and images of light that will live on through the cold and dark season of the year."

N's favorite part of Halloween was the candy!  D's favorite part was us letting him go trick or treating with a group of friends so he could get 9 pounds of candy.  Wowzers!

Thank goodness the next day was a late start for my oldest 2 and no school at all for M.  The older 3 were up at 6am and digging into their candy.  They woke us up by giving Twizzlers to Hubby and Butterfingers to me.  They know us well and hate those kinds.  He he.

My parents, M and N and I all came to the school to watch K receive a spirt award (hard working) that her teacher nominated her for.  He was so fun to see a proud smile on her face.  K is really maturing and when she and I went trick or treating just the 2 of us for a while, I could tell that someday, she was going to be one of my best friends.  But for now I will continue to play the role of proud mom.

After school and after Activity Days, C got to stay for dinner and play time.  The guinea pigs were a huge hit.

Yesterday the Halloween decorations came down, the Thanksgiving ones went up and it's time for me to start planning for all that will happen over Thanksgiving break!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
