Teeth, Elitch's and Popcorn

M was very excited to go to the orthodontist because she knew she had done the work she needed to obtain the big prize she had been aiming for: at $30 Target gift card.  She was not happy, however, when she learned the baby tooth that was being pushed forward by the adult tooth behind it had to come out immediately.  M did NOT want that Novocain shot!  After convincing her it had to come out and to tell the orthodontist he could do it (she demanded I buy her a horse if she had to get a shot), M decided she was going to yank that wiggly tooth out herself.  She began pushing forwards and backwards and with the verbal help of the office manager kept on working at it, even with the obvious pain and outpouring of blood.  By the time the orthodontist came back (and I was taking N to the bathroom) M had that tooth so loosened up that the orthodontist was able to just use some floss to make it come out!  Once the blood was cleaned up -- there was a lot -- we were able to make sure the new device that had been made just for her still worked with that new permanent tooth in.  And it barely does.  The orthodontist said if we had waited a couple days they would have had to make another one.  Whew!  Turns out she doesn't like having molds of her mouth taken either.  For me, this was a lesson in just how DETERMINED this 7-year-old is capable of being!  When we told my dad about it he said he was 50% proud and 50% nauseous.  That a girl!  (Later she went to Target with Hubby and picked out the Rey staff, a BB-8 figurine and a box of Whoppers.)

Annual work night at Elitch Gardens  Above you will find what happens when you try to take a picture of my son now-a-days.  Below, excitement over poop emoji hats for sale.  K says she wants to be a poop emoji for Halloween this year.  You'll notice she isn't in any of the pictures because her first volleyball practice was the night and she really wanted to go.  K is super happy that her 3rd grade teacher from last year is one of the coaches and she knows most of the children on the team so we felt like we had to let her go when my mom offered to take her for us.  J's mom even took her to TCBY after practice!

N's first time riding the roller coaster in kiddie land.

The favorite ride of the evening.

N falling asleep on the Ferris Wheel.  It was so much more crowded than other nights my husband's company has rented the place out.  One person told me they had sold out of the 3,500 tickets they had for employees to purchase.  Wowzers.

It's that time of year again!  When my son is super excited to go knocking on neighbors' doors and stand in front of the grocery store trying to sell Cub Scout popcorn.  If you want some, just let me know!  Goes great with watching movies (see below).  (;

This is how the Lego Batman movie looked at our house   I love the smile on K's face!  Are we happy we finished off the basement?  Yes, we are!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
