K turns 10!

Since we knew we would be traveling for K's 10th birthday, before we left town Hubby and I made her a volleyball cake and sang to her before letting her open presents from us and my parents.  Funny story about her gift from us -- she gave us the idea when we got D a Nintendo DS for his birthday.  We had lost the one we had given him for Christmas but knew it had to be somewhere in the house.  So, when I did find it a couple weeks before her  birthday (while I was looking for the stapler), I kept it hidden in the place that had kept it safe for months and gave it to her for her big gift from us.  K was so excited to have it for our plane ride to Boston!  The funny part?  When Hubby got out his computer bag he hadn't used since we flew to my Great Aunt Hope's 90th birthday party last October, he found the original DS we had purchased last summer and thought we had left on the plane!  K and D begged us to let M have it so all 3 of the older children could play it on the plane.  I told them it wasn't fair because they had received their DSs for their birthdays this summer and they didn't care because it meant they didn't have to share.  Lol.  So now all 3 of my older children have their own DS but have been surprisingly good about only using them when allowed since coming home.  Perhaps they over dosed on the airplane flights?  Luckily she isn't sick of the clothes I bought her for her birthday yet.  From my parents she was given a ton of Guitar Hero stuff.  The best part of that?  She picked the Beatles Wii game to do first.  I've done something right with this child after all.  (:  And watching all 4 children give up on the game and pretend to be a band together to songs playing from Apple Music and their utter delight to have fake guitars made our entire family smile.

After our return home we threw K a Descendants2 birthday party.  At first I was surprised she invited so few of her friends but then while they were all laughing and comfortable on our sofa, I realized she had invited just the right number.  It's kind of fun to be reminded of yourself as a 10-year-old when you see your oldest daughter with her friends being goofy.  K is a riot and the other girls love being around her when she is in entertainer mode.  She can make people laugh like no other and K still has one of my favorite laughs in the world.  The girls enjoyed the theme she picked out too.  Hubby and I are convinced D2 is one of the worst movies ever made and are shocked another one is in the works but these pre-teen girls are absolutely in love with it!  Uma has inspired K to get a teal streak put in her hair after swim lessons are over next week!

It was no surprise that K's check up statistics told us she is in the 92nd percentile for height.  K is perfectly proportioned, athletic, intelligent and our Boston trip plus swim lessons this summer have given her a tan worthy of utter jealousy.  She is almost done with the summer work I assigned her before 4th grade starts in less than 2 weeks, for which I will give her a $10 reward.  Between that and the birthday money from her paternal grandparents and Great Grandma W., she'll be debt free!  K had racked up some debt going on 3rd grade field trips and buying little things like fidget spinners here and there.  Sounds great to start saving up souvenir money for our next trip -- less than 4 months away and we are so excited to be back on a beach!

Wishing you a wonderful year and a great experience in 4th grade, K!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
