The summer continues

M's track meets are more chaotic than I expected, but when you come home with ribbons like she does, who cares?  She was thrilled to come in second place for the long jump (her favorite event) and won a first place ribbon for participating in the shuttle relay.  That same day K got to hang out with her troop on Main Street and go shopping.  She loved it and came home with a beautiful necklace before we fed the missionaries and had her 3rd grade teacher's daughter babysit while Hubby and I finally got to watch the last Jason Bourne movie in the basement we have been meaning to watch for months.  We watched the other 4 Bourne movies in preparation and it felt so good to feel like we had accomplished one of our summer goals.  Lol.
The last week of June brought more play time with friends, D attending (and LOVING) mountain biking camp with AVID, M taking her first golf lesson (her new favorite sport), me evacuating the clinic during my check up due to a fire alarm going off (that's a first for me), D's last baseball game, M getting bribed by the orthodontist's office to wear her trainer every day, a continuation of D and M going to Sonya's for handwriting & reading tutoring, buying D a new bike, and going to the traveling Vikings exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science before buying camping gear at Cabela's.
July meant K began swimming lessons.  She goes every morning M-F for two weeks for 45 minutes.  The first day you could tell it had been a long time since she swam like that, but she is amazing and began to excel very quickly.  This is her first time taking lessons through the rec center and we are loving the outdoor pool.  So far the weather has been great.  I hope it is for the 2 week session she is signed up for in August too.

D had his 8 year check up and is doing well, just as expected.  He is is the 88th percentile for height and the 90th percentile for weight.  Reminds me of when his biological grandmother told me her brothers were built like brick walls.  I think he's going to take after his uncles.  Lucky thing since his current career dream is to become a professional athlete!

When your preschooler says she wants short hair and the last time she said that she cut it herself, you take her to the salon asap!  N picked out her haircut out of a book and is absolutely in love with it!

Playing at Meadow Park with Dad while and after Mom had a primary presidency meeting.  Score!

These instant water balloons Grandpa Ted brought over were a big hit!

We girls finally got the garden put in!

M was super excited to have real cowgirl boots to go to horseback riding camp in.  She is an adorable little animal loving sweetheart.  Here we are celebrating at TCBY.  While M had that all week, D spent some time at science camp at Sonya's house and K was swimming and N spent time playing with her friend Annabelle H.  Somehow we also managed to do homework, get 4 of us into the dentist for check ups, and start getting ready for our trip to visit the S. family.  I feel like the summer is going by so fast and will be over way too soon!  For about a week I considered home schooling my children so that we could have this kind of freedom year round!  I even found a cheap house near Disney World to live in during the winter months that had a HOA golf course, 2 lit tennis courts, and 2 swimming pools.  And then reality set in again.  (:

Q loves helping us take the mini van to the car wash when she is over for the day

MK invited K to a high school baseball game and K had such a great time!

Watching Hidden Figures with the Activity Days girls at our home.  I'm so glad I read the book to get the full and real story, but thought the movie did a good time portraying the time period.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
