All sorts of stuff

N and I were pretty excited when our Compost bin suddenly appeared in our driveway one morning. We will pay about $6/month extra to compost but we now have a small size trash can, which is about $6/month cheaper so really not much difference in cost to do our part to have a greener home. A friend of M's mom also hooked me up with Norwex so I'm using less soap in the kitchen now too. ❤ 🌏

This year M and D's choir concerts were on the same night and they both had speaking parts. M's theme was rainbows and she made sure I wore my Muppets 🌈 shirt to watch. K, M and N all helped me make a shirt for D to wear with his good friend, M.C. Last year D looked like he was going to fall asleep and this year he was animated and had a great time. Part of it was because there was no Power Point presentation about music curriculum. Having a Dr. Seuss theme is pretty fun and dressing up with a friend is even better.

Eating at Whole Foods has been a big hit recently with N and her friend M
Along with attending friends' birthday parties (M above at E's & M & N below at M.T.'s)

Teresa got married! We felt very honored to be invited to her wedding reception. We met her right before D was born and she has made our lives better ever since. She helps keep me sane and life more enjoyable for our entire family. The children got to try out authentic Mexican wedding cake and soda. We had to smile when the card I wrote in with the gift card we bought was read out loud with a microphone and then translated into Spanish and cheered at. If I had known that I may have tried harder to write something beautiful. Lol. Not a tradition I've seen before. Congratulations, T! We are happy for you and glad we could share in your special day!

PS fun!
Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!  The Sneetches made me cry.  What a powerful message in that children's book so many adults could take a 2nd look at.

N and I were happy to attend the 1st grade wax museum. M wanted to be Sacajawea and K helped her with her facts because K had just done a report on her in her 3rd grade class. S.O. let us borrow her daughter's costume in exchange for some babysitting and M had a great time. The most popular famous American was Amelia Earhart but the one and only Michael Jackson (T.W.) nailed his costume.

We had the delight of watching our niece play volleyball here in CO.  It was a blast to not only have her family over for dinner, but to join them in Denver and watch their team beat teams from CA, TX, and FL.  I learned so much and K let me sign her up for volleyball with the rec center beginning next month.  I'm excited for her to try something new!

Another family delight was having my cousin, J, bring her new puppy for a visit to our house & to buy Girl Scout cookies.  Soooo cute and soft!
K, D, and M took an Acting for the Camera class after school and we all enjoyed hanging out at the school a little afterwards to look at things like what N chose to do with her car:  shopping.  She's my errand buddy, what can I say?
I just had to include this gorgeous rainbow in a cloud we saw after one of their acting classes.

M wanted to help give Meigo a bath so we waited until a Saturday to take her to the dog wash.  A few days later you could tell after she began rolling around in dead grass as the weather got warmer.  lol

To celebrate the end of GS cookie sales we had a movie party!  We watched Trolls and had a piñata after doing some patch activities.  It was fun to just have fun as a troop!  Makes me wish I was a little more relaxed when I planned out the year.  (:

D doing a great job reading his talk in primary.  He was such a good sport because I had forgotten until that morning to spring it on him.  I love my boy.

At one point Hubby thought he would have to go on a business trip to New York without us and this was the children's reaction.  They were so relieved when they found out he didn't have to go!  I feel very fortunate my husband doesn't have to go out of town for work very often.  We love having him around!

We had some warm days in March that let us hang out at the park a bit.  M helped N reach the top!

N's snowman and new jelly shoes she just had to buy instead of the Easter shoes I was really looking for.  Ha!

We had our first experience with the BME Science fair this year. D wanted to participate and we remembered an idea that we had heard during a visit to the DMN&S. We wrote to friends around the United States 🇺🇸 (and a few friends in Europe) to set a penny outside in January and send us a picture. Then they were to leave it undisturbed until March and send us another picture. D's hypothesis was that the coins in the hotter climates would change the most. We were really hoping the ones in Florida would turn green! It was fun for me to reach out to individuals I haven't had personal contact with for a while and remember all the kind/helpful people I've met in my life. My dad helped D put together his trifold and the photo center employee at Sam's Club now knows me as the penny lady. I also got to tease hubby that I finally used one of the National Geographic maps he didn't want to move to the new house 3 years ago. 😂 At the science fair it was fun to see people linger on my son's project and seem interested in the idea. I was impressed with what neat ideas other students had too! Next year K will be required to participate -- another reason to be grateful my boy wanted to do this. And it helped him earned a science award through Cub Scouts too!
K participated in a group project for the science fair (which I didn't know until we got to the open house).  I was super impressed with their new, more polar bear friendly habitat for zoos to incorporate into their caring for endangered animals.  Nice work, K!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
