The idea of a new year really got my elementary children thinking. They kept making funny jokes about how it had been a whole year since they had slept and there was no arguing with them to tell them, no, that was yesterday. (:
In January we got in our annual trip to the ice rink...
our youngest graduated from nursery and became a Sunbeam. Since it was New Year's Day and many families were out of town, only about half of the primary was there, which worked out perfectly for all the changes that happened that day. N's favorite outfit to wear to church is her C-3PO dress from Walt Disney World with a navy blue cardigan and tights. I suggested she only wear it every other Sunday so her other dresses could have a turn. (:
the neighborhood children contemplated licking the light pole like they had seen in Christmas Story (thank you, VidAngel) before we got to remember what -13 degrees felt like...
D earned enough money shoveling driveways with his friend, C, that he got to purchase a marshmallow shooter. I must admit that thing is pretty cool and smells good too!
Date night for Mom & Dad meant going to see Rogue 1 in the theater. We didn't want any spoilers because we knew everyone would be talking about it. I really don't think, though, if you know that's it's about how the Death Star plans were obtained, you knew it wasn't going to be a comedy. Tragedy it was!
M worked so hard to prepare her talk in jr. primary and I couldn't have been more proud of her. She wrote it herself and had me print out just the right picture for the children to look at. Great, work, M!
M and N started dance classes but N soon decided it wasn't any fun unless she was with M and now dances to the Petite Feet DVD instead.
M also began going to an American Girl book club. They are reading the Caroline series and she is loving it even more than dance class. It is historical fiction set around the War of 1812. Seeing how much she likes it really makes me want to take the family to the East Coast.
One day while playing the girls built a Snowgie like in the short film, Frozen Fever. Later the neighbor's new puppy knocked it down and it was rebuilt. She is a great dog but my children have stopped asking for a puppy. lol.
D began taking a sports class after school that he is loving. It is so great for him to get some exercise while the weather isn't conducive to outdoor play!
and when it was too cold outside we remembered an old trick of mine from when my older three were little: bring in the snow to play with. A boy from church was over to play and was convinced I was insane. lol.
January also meant D started working on his science fair project. We asked friends from around the USA and world to put a penny outdoors for us. We want to see if the pennies in warm and wet places turn green. Hopefully they do, even in winter!
Enjoying helping a friend celebrate her birthday at the Chop House in Denver for a GNO dinner. There were 7 of us and lots of laughter and delicious food. The sour apple sorbet with caramel sauce was a great way to end dinner!
Seeing my dad help my daughter with math homework makes me so happy. Who know how many hours he and my mother spent with me doing homework as I grew up?!?
We threw our favorite man a birthday/graduation party. It was so neat to see old friends who helped us over the 6 years it took for him to earn his degree. We are so proud of him and we love him so!
and D was so excited for his first pro basketball game! The guy woke up at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep just counting down the time until he could go.
I busted my first grader out of school early to go to her favorite play place. Once a year isn't criminal, is it?
Got to attend this great woman's baby shower and wish her the best as she begins a new life out of state.
N was a real trooper while the primary president and I worked on the primary bulletin board for the year. The heat wasn't turned on in the building so we kept our winter coats on the entire time. She insisted her paper doll be right next to her 3 siblings -- so sweet.
And it's GS cookie time! Our home has been invaded by cookies but check out the cool forts you can make with cases of them! Our new cookie mom and I brought 162 cases to our home! The workers at the pick up sight were afraid they wouldn't fit but they sure did!
M was excited to get out there the very first day of sales. K and M and I went around the neighborhood but eventually N insisted Hubby bringer to us because she missed us so she went to a few doors too.
