day camps and June randomness

That happy medium between being too busy and too bored in the summertime -- I think we accomplished it as well as we could this summer. There are so many great things to try when school is out. I'm loving this summer thing. My kids are so much happier than they were in May!

M loved attending horse camp again this year. My future farmer is doing great grooming and riding a horse!  A big thank you to my mother who helped drive her to and from. It allowed K and D to chose other activities and N to not be in the mini van so much.

K went to the M family sewing camp. We love going to their house. They charge $45 for TuesdayWednesdayand Thursday. That leaves Mondays and Fridays free and believe me, the quality for the price is great. I told the children whenever they wanted to go, I was fine with it. M and N chose gardening/science camp one week and D chose water camp another.  They were great.

D returned to L Indoor Soccer and to Ninja Camp. He chooses more activities and seems to have more energy to burn. I'm a-ok with that and so are his sisters. They can be super girly while he's not around so it's a win-win for everyone.

I did encourage the older 3 to spend a morning at the gymnastics studio when they held Star Wars camp during a week when we had dentist appointments. What Star Wars fan can give up that opportunity, right?
As a side note, K and I went to the W family's going away party with our old ward even though everyone was excited that Hubby's parents were coming to visit. E still reigns as K's all time favorite babysitter and the W family, with Brother W being the bishop when I was YW president and how much he helped our family and watching Sister W recover from her car accident with fortitude and such a great attitude... we will miss them so much. Our old ward seems to be shrinking -- so many good families moving away. You know what the best part of going to an open house like that is?  Feeling loved. I feel pure, Christ like love for me and my family when I am around them. When we moved here Hubby and I were newlyweds. Nine years late, when we moved out, we just had our 4th baby blessed in that ward. Memories and love.

While Hubby's parents were here they gave us some old photographs from his Grandmother. They were so fun to look at with him. Many of them I had never seen before.  It will be a blast to update the scrapbook I made him years ago.  His parents weren't here long. They actually came for two overnighters on the way to and from a vacation to the Great Smokey Mountains. I loved hearing all about their trip. I had considered going there since I have a relative who lives near where they went. They also toured Biltmore, which was the setting for a recent book club book, Seraphina and the Black Cloak. Turns out you're not taken to the basement on the tour. Lol.

Add in a Cub Scout hike for D, Hannah's bridal shower for me, a concert at the public library for M and N, plus an air show for all of us and presto!  Just like that, June was over.

P.S.  We are loving our strawberry patch, the stroller our neighbors gave us -- Marshmallow has been getting rides inside, and playing badminton together as a family.

P.P.S.  I just had to add in a little of this summer fun: how many sisters can you fit inside a tunnel?  All of them!
We also had some great flea market finds in June.  We went in search of a dresser for K's closet now that she doesn't want me choosing outfits for her anymore and putting them in bins in the bottom of her closet.  Perfect fit!  We also happened to find a printer's tray to store Lego mini figures in and decorate another basement wall (for a great price).  I am also totally in love with my WWII era sewing cabinet to organized all my mending and sewing on of Girl Scout and Boy Scout patches.  It is doubling as an end table by the sofa in the basement.  I'm totally willing to spend money on vintage items as long as they are functional too!

Just had to add in this cute picture of K and the magic color changing TCBY spoon.  While Hubby took D on his Cub Scout hike, I took the girls for frozen yogurt.  Shhh, don't tell D!  I think he would have chosen the treat instead too, but I heard they had a blast.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
