When I saw on Instagram my oldest niece was proposed to in from of Hogwarts in Orlando, I instantly thought that was the perfect place for J to propose to C. I should not have been surprised when she then announced it would be a Harry Potter themed wedding. How fun! In preparation for such a wedding, I had the children take a Sorting Hat quiz to see which house they would be in. Hubby and I had taken the Pottermore quiz around the time we went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando and he came back Slythern and I am totally a Hufflepuff. Our son takes after his father and M takes after me. To my surprise, N came back as Gryffindor. Finally justifies me purchasing that sweatshirt when I was cold in Florida. lol. K was the last one to take the quiz and I was kind of hoping she would come back Ravenclaw so all 4 houses would be represented in my family but with her being a Gryffindor, N won't be so lonely.
We left on Friday after picking the children up from school to drive to Little America and spend the night there. I was grateful the children could watch the Peanuts Movie while Hubby and I began listening to The Martian by Andy Weir. I had told my husband months ago I refused to watch the movie until I read the book and I think he enjoyed it even more than I did.
Since Hubby did most of the driving we made great time and were able to spend a couple hours at his grandmother's house before having lunch with my friend Kelly at In and Out Burger. He was awesome and took the children to the hotel to get ready so I could talk with her longer. She was one of my friends I didn't get to see at Christmas time and is moving out of state next week so was my #1 priority this time. I hope our next trip is much longer!
Christine did a magnificent job with the decorations! It was so lovely -- the perfect blend of elegance and personality. She must have poured her heat and soul into those decorations. I'm glad it was exactly as she wanted. Few people could have pulled off a Harry Potter wedding so well!
While the ceremony took place I loved looking at Christine's face. She was beyond happy. There was a slight rain, which I thought went with the Harry Potter theme quite nicely since England is known for that kind of weather. I am truly happy for them and wish them the best as they fulfill the promise to be each other's "always."
After a late night it was nice to sleep in, especially for little N. Our two youngest seemed to be fighting off the cold we had seen in others at the reception and they watched Paw Patrol while our oldest two swam at the pool. We were grateful the family we chose to go to church with didn't have church until 1pm. (We wanted to go with J and B b/c their children's ages line up well with ours and they are in the same town as we would be having family dinner that night.) I really enjoyed going to church with J and B's family. Our two families took an entire row across the widest pew and I think the children did great. K, D, and N were happy to go with cousins their age to primary and nursery. M ended up coming to Sunday School and Relief Society but the teachers gave excellent lessons and I didn't mind having her there. She and Hubby and I were more than happy to simply be around baby T in Sunday School. Our family fell in love with that little guy. K and I really felt the pain of leaving Utah behind to go back to our home state. She showed it by verbally abusing us, telling us she wished we never existed and that she was part of a different family. After totally loosing my temper I bawled like crazy in the women's bathroom at a rest stop. I guess there is a part of me buried deep down that is still upset I had to choose between finishing my degree at BYU or living with my husband and finishing there instead. It's been a dozen years now and my sub conscience still misses the friendships formed so long ago.
Even though it was a quick trip, it was so great to spend the weekend with family. I must admit, I wanted to bring a couple nephews home with me! We drove straight back first thing Monday morning because Hubby's final for his class was that night. That drive across Wyoming isn't easy, especially on our new 3-year-old, but life isn't about what is easy. It's about what is important. I hope my children realize that even though we don't live near their extended family, we do love them very much.
