Birthday Boy, Cookies, & Skating

What better preparation to celebrate your birthday than by going to see your lawyer to update your will?  Poor Husband.  The things his wife sets up for him to do.  I had a babysitter arranged for N but M was too excited to see what a lawyer was to stay with her.  Miss Stubborn decided she had to come with us too, but I must say, they were such angels.  I am so grateful they have each other in the mornings before M heads off to kindergarten.  N and I will both miss her greatly when she begins 1st grade next year.  The children all convinced me that N just HAD to go to school where they do when she begins preschool.  I wanted her to attend Miss Stacey's, like all the other children had.  I was greatly outnumbered and realized this was something they would never forgive me for.  So, she is signed up to attend preschool at their elementary school two mornings a week next year.  They really hope to see her at special events or in the hallway.  M and N will actually be in the same "pod" so their chances should be pretty high.
Our beloved former neighbors, Dave & Marshon, who had known us since our dog was just a puppy, moved out of state this fall.  We miss them even though we have seen them far less since we moved into our new home 2 years ago.  What a big surprise it was when they sent us a belated Christmas present of a Target gift card.  That weekend we piled into the mini van and went shopping.  N couldn't have been happier to have a pet bird like M had earned and a small Lego set.

D found a big Nerf gun on sale, M bought a birthday present for her friend's party the next week and a few items from the See Spot for herself.  Who knew a $1 R2D2 notebook and eraser could make a kindergartener so so so happy?

K picked out gum and Barbie & Ken clothes and I told husband to pick something out since his birthday was the next day.  Those light saber characters in Disney Infinity are so much fun to play with!!!
We loved giving him his little presents the next day.  All of us had picked something out just for him. Let's just say our Disney Infinity collection grew by more than just Yoda that week!  The big big present  was signing us up to take our older 3 kids and the two of us snorkeling in the Bahamas over spring break!  Now if that isn't something to look forward to, I don't know what is!
The birthday dinner was at Texas Roadhouse because K had earned a free meal with her good behavior at school -- practicing the 5 Be's in the hallway and everywhere.  She was so proud and we were too!

Happy birthday to the man I could never live without!
In other news, D still misses his good friend Luke soooo very much.  Luke moved out of state at Christmas time and D hasn't wanted to go to school since.  I do think it's cute they find ways to keep in touch, like sending each other stickers over their mom's phones.
We've had lots of play dates at our house recently and my kids absolutely love it!

D's genius hour project needed some homework -- we made bubble gum for the first time in our lives.  The kids thought it was absolutely wonderful.  I was reminded of why we buy things at the store.  lol.
Why was your daughter tardy today?  Because it was crazy hair day and when I announced it was time to get boots and backpack put on, she remembered!  So wacky piggy tails with red and green hair paint we had on hand -- and another tardy added to this girl's record.  Did I tell you how many she has had?  I think this was #22!  Guess I should have signed her up for morning kindergarten after all!
Hubby's parents sent him money for his birthday and he bought a new basketball for church ball.  He's had the same one for decades, so I thought it was the perfect way to use the money & the 20% off coupon I had saved at Sports Authority.
Girl Scout cookies!!!  1,750 boxes of cookies for our troop and they live at my house until sold!  They seem quite happy staying in the guest bedroom.  It has 3 external walls so I closed the heating vent, stuck a towel under the door, and they stay nice and cool there.  Well, except yesterday the weather was so nice the 3 windows heated up the joint and I had to open the window to cool the place down.
I have only been taking M to homes of friends who tell me they would like to purchase.  Our biggest customers were from our old ward and it was so fun to go visit them.  They couldn't have been nicer to our little M.  However, it's pretty tough to beat Grandpa as a customer.  When you go to Grandma and Grandpa's house and ask if they want to buy cookies and Grandma says she'll take one box of Trefoils and one box of Tagalongs and then Grandpa says he'll take a case of Samoas and a case of Thin Mints and a case of Do-si-Dos and a case of Savannah Smiles, he gets a giant tackle hug!!!

K and D grew out of their snow boots and they arrived from Zappos the day before a snow day!  Talk about great timing!  K loves hers and doesn't like having to take them off.  We ended up moving her insoles from the podiatrist to her boots from her tennis shoes so she can wear them all day at school.  She was soooo happy.  Of course sledding was in order.  I insisted Hubby stay home from work to join us.  Turns out there are drawbacks to being the first ones at the sledding hill.  Blazing a trail means you can get up to your arm pits in snow and walking can be so difficult you fall over -- a lot.

D and his friend, Carlos, decided to help other neighbors shovel their driveways and sidewalks for money.  They would shovel, earn a few dollars each, come get warm at our house and go out again.  I think they helped with half a dozen driveways and earned enough money to each buy an RC car at Target -- all before dinner time.  The best part of living in our neighborhood is the people we share it with!
M started swim lessons at the rec center again.  One day after class we walked to the museum and had a blast visiting the free section.  I just love the state we live in.  This water exhibit went really well with the water conservation we had been talking about as part of a Girl Scout badge she's working on.  Neat to see that before it was just some water to play with and now she really gets the main point behind the exhibit.
The snow has certainly stuck around!  N loves it when her friend Mary is still at school pick up when we get there.  N and Mary are all signed up to be in preschool together and hearing them giggle makes me feel so much better about sending my baby away a few hours each week next school year.  I mean, can I really call her a baby if she is totally potty trained, day and night?!?  Well, maybe I can if she insists on sleeping in her brother's bed because she doesn't want to be lonely when she goes to sleep.  These two are so much alike it is difficult to believe they don't share DNA.  They feel like they were destined to be siblings for sure.
Ice skating!  My first true love!  I couldn't convince K to go skating with M and I, so when she asked for a play date with Gwen I told her I was willing to take them skating.  I planned to take K and G and Ava and M with me and leave D and N at home with my husband, but then my boy decided he would come too.  Yay!  So our family of 6 + 2 = a very fun afternoon!  We didn't want to leave.  And D and N did end up leaving earlier than the originally planned girls and I, so it was great we had 2 vehicles there after all.

Feeling a little outnumbered there, D?  Why don't boys like to smile for the camera?  At lease my husband is game.  (:

Super Bowl champions!  M worked hard to sell 50 boxes of cookies over Super Bowl weekend to earn a special Broncos patch from the local GS council.  Going to daddy's work before afternoon kindergarten was a big it.  She ended up selling 33 boxes there.  That patch will be even more fun after watching the home team win!  We had our neighbors, Pooja and Chatten and their family over to watch with us and we had a great time.  After the win we couldn't help but do a happy dance.  Well, some of us, at least.

Look at these two.  I can't help but sing the song "Sisters" from White Christmas any time I see this pure joy on their faces.  N is so happy to see her older siblings at school pick up.  It's no wonder they insisted she attend preschool in the same building they go to.
Chocolate night at Relief Society!  Here's to the former Primary Presidency.  Oh, Audra and I are still around, but somebody decided to move to another part of town.  Luckily she came back to visit us!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
