Getting schooled in September

All 4 of the children began a new round of swim lessons this fall.  K and N continue were they learned but D and M decided to give the local rec center a try instead.  (They haven't taken lessons for a while.)  D would rather play than learn but M absolutely loves her lessons.  She feels like they are much more fun and less work than where she started.  We also really lucked out because there was only one other student in her class and he didn't come half the time.  So during the month of September M had 4 lessons with one other student and 4 private lessons for a grand total of $32.  I guess the rec center caught on that isn't a great way to make money & they canceled the class for October.  We signed her up for November and are crossing our fingers they get the 3 students they need to start up again.  As for N, she loves being with her friends for another semester and K is rocking learning new skills preparing her for the butterfly stroke.
(M is in the first picture, K in the second.  They have matching swimsuits.  The picture of M & N is after one of M's lessons when we walked around the area between the rec center and the city museum.)
N and M have really bonded during the time they have together in the mornings while K and D are in grade school.  N gets very upset at times, especially if we don't have something like grocery shopping to do after we drop M off at kindergarten.  One day she decided she would lay on M so she couldn't leave the house.  When we picked up D and M (K was going to dance class with friends) that day their reunion was especially sweet.

N does love it when she is the one that gets to go somewhere.  Above is a picture of her going with Grandma to a nature class for toddlers.  She adores it!  They have a great time and fun crafts.  She comes home and tells me she had fun with her new friends.  Below you'll find a picture of her before her trial ballet lesson.  N had fun but she is just as happy dancing at home with M in front of a great little DVD I found on Amazon called Petite Feet.  Cheaper too.  Score!  M did participate in a dance class in September but decided to discontinue in October.  She didn't like being rushed straight from school to class and says kindergarten is just too tiring.  So now M & N watch their DVD once a week and are happy as clams and it makes my life easier too.  They also have a gymnastics, jazz, and yoga DVDs that they like too.  Cosmic Kids on YouTube is a favorite for yoga as well.

Projects!  How do you replace a picnic table top or build a rabbit exercise pen?  Help Daddy over the course of two weekends in the fall!  A big thank you to Hubby for taking all the spare time he had so that the rabbits could be happier and we can picnic in the backyard again.  Muah!

Since my friend Tiffany took such good pictures of the children this summer, we opted not to buy the school photos this September.  Hubby took this one in the morning before he drove them to school on his way to work.  There are lots of bloopers that are in danger of being deleted.  lol.

Our kindergartener had a half birthday we celebrated at the end of the month.  I love the expression on her face as she waits for the song to end so she can cut into the cake!  Grandma Karyl made her a Lambie cake from the tv show Doc McStuffins and we had our former neighbors Dave, Marshon, and Darrell along with Grandma and Grandpa over for dinner.  The kids are still rooting for presents on their half birthdays and I'm still not caving.  But I sure am grateful for an excuse to have wonderful family friends over for dinner and a special dessert in honor of my 5.5 year old.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
