P is for party

The week of parties was kicked off by our ward's chili cook off and trunk or treat.  I promised the children I would buy the costumes they wanted for school & trick or treating if they wore things I picked out for the church party.  So off to Neverland we went!  You would never believe how much our 18 month old loved her pirate costume.  The hat, the sword, the ghost goody bag.  Pretty amazing that I only paid $4 for it at a consignment sale.  M, N, K's and mine all were purchased used.  Danny already had is from back when Peter Pan was his favorite movie.  So I only had to run to Party City the night before and buy Dan a costume.  I liked teasing him that his cost as much as all the others put together.  Our neighbor, Mike, took this picture for us.  It's gotten over 160 likes on Facebook.  Wowzers. Our neighbor had a birthday party and the culminating event after the party cake was bringing out the toilet paper and making a backyard full of mummies.  One mummy came walking toward me and I asked who is was.  It was my favorite boy in the whole world and I didn't even recognize him!

Have you ever moved cotton balls from one table to another using only your nose with a dab of Vaseline on it?  D has.  Also, the Transformers were quite popular in his kindergarten class.  He had wanted to Mario from Mario Kart since August but when he heard Z was going to be a transformer he wipped out the costume I had bought him on clearance after Halloween and joined the crowd.

There were a lot of Elsa's at K's school but not as many as I had imagined there would be.  I helped with both D & K's parties and it was a fun and easy gig to be in charge of the balloon races for K's.  She had to shed her wig and hold up her dress but she didn't cheat -- unlike a lot of the kids in her class.   I have to mention Dan put in extra hours Monday-Thursday so that he could stay home on Halloween.  He went to the school parade in the morning and took care of the children while I was gone.  N was super happy about it.  She stuck to him like glue pretty much the entire day.  It would have been almost impossible for him to leave for work so it's a good thing he didn't have to.  Well, that and the fact his car wouldn't start.  (We're going to have it towed on Monday because it looks like we need a new starter.)
M was super upset I was gone to help with K & D's parties so I took her to Discovery Days to make Halloween crafts.  (It's hard to tell from this picture, but I sewed white felt onto a black shirt for her to be a panda.)  I took a Tinkerbell doll along because I didn't think anyone would be able to tell who I was without some help.  That also led me dressing N as Tinkerbell for the neighborhood party that night.  Also, it meant I didn't have to change her clothes when she was upset about being woken up from her nap -- just slipped in on top of what she was already wearing & tried to put her hair up in a bun.

Our neighbors are amazing!  Great food, great company, and plenty of fun trick or treating.     We couldn't ask for a better place to live!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
