A Decade of Us

It's hard to believe it has been a whole ten years since Dan & I got married.  So much has changed yet I'm still utterly in love with this wonderful man.  I was a nerd and made him a slide show with pictures of us in iPhoto set to Glee's "The Only Exception."  I figured only a couple people would actually want to watch it on Facebook, so I didn't post it there, but Dan did this wonderful status update back on our anniversary (a couple weeks ago):

Ten years ago today I married the girl I met over cookies, too this day she still brings sweetness into my life. To celebrate I've created a top ten list of the reasons I love you Sarah Smith

10) One of the first things I noticed about you was your radiant smile. You developed a special smile reserved just for me. You've still got it and you have shared it with our children, I see it every day.

9) You have always been the easiest and most enjoyable person to talk to that I know.

We share similar dreams and goals for our future and both look forward to travel and visiting new places.

7) I'll say it a thousand times, you are beautiful.

6) You are an awesome Mom, and it shows in the children you are raising that are full of Joy, Love and Laughter (with the occasional spat along the way).

5) You always are sure to tell me that you love me and greet/say goodbye with a kiss.

4) You are very intelligent woman.

3) You are a woman that is willing to watch and enjoy SciFi, that is like a unicorn rare and precious.

2) Somehow you think it is still cute when I misspell a word here or there. I'm getting better. I'm amazed you put up with my letters for 18 months.

1) You see me for who I can become and are helping me to become a better man, husband, and father.

I love you, Happy 10th Anniversary.

Yeah, he has a tendency to do things well.  (:  Me?  I can only say, I am doing exactly what brings me joy:  being his wife and raising his children.  There is nothing else I would rather be doing right now.

As far as celebration goes, we took the baby with us to eat at the new Smashburger & then had the H. family over to watch Despicable Me with us.  Doesn't sound like a whole lot, but with moving and our wedding rings....

Perhaps you remember when I lost my wedding ring 2 years ago?  I've been wearing my grandmother's engagement ring since then & since it is almost 70 years old, it was in such need of repair it wasn't cost effective to save it.  The Shane Company was able to look up Dan's original purchase order from 10 years ago and still carry that wedding ring set.  Long story short, I'm wearing the ring Dan picked out for me when we got engaged and have my grandmother's diamond in it.  I couldn't be happier.  Dan's ring got some tlc too.  He needed it resized because he gains weight when I get pregnant.  Amazing what a nice cleaning can do to something that has been worn for years!

We also want to fly to Boston in the fall for a weekend with just the baby & the two of us.  Keep forgetting to buy airplane tickets, but we will any day now.  Love you, Dan!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
