summer randomness

What happens when you're super behind on your blog?  You get a random post like this!  Here are some photos from the fun we had during the second half of our summer:
Our family loves going to Kanemoto Pool, especially with friends.  We went 4 times this summer.  Not worth the pass we bought, though.  If we had gone just one more time before it closed we would have saved money.  Live and learn.
The children really enjoyed Serena's hula party for her 5th birthday.  Serena was the one friend she invited over for cake a couple weeks later when it was her birthday.
We've produced lots of art work and creations around here.  Michelle's favorite medium is paint.  She asks for it almost every day.  This summer has been a lot hotter than last summer, so we have spent more time inside than we did last year.  That's one reason why the doodle pad below, purchased at a garage sale for $2, has been such a great thing.  Kaelah loves loves loves to draw and I think she's really good for someone her age.

Danny's favorite medium is play-dough.  I think that's because he can beat it up and it still looks ok.

The M. family put on a 3-day day camp at their house this summer.  Kaelah and Danny both attended. It was so strange to not have them around.  Michelle and I made more than one trip to Home Depot for our living room project during this time, but that project is for another post.
Kaelah loved being in Dancenastics this summer instead of simply dance.  Here Michelle is watching Kaelah on the rings from the upstairs observation area.  They children all loved their classes so much I signed them up for the fall even though it is much more expensive.  They love it so much!  Maybe we will be able to stop at the semester.
This was a great improvement in our lives.  Looks like shoes, right?  Well, I emptied the lowest shelf in the laundry room by purchasing an over-the-door organizer to put the craft supplies in.  Then we have these boxes that the children can easily reach with one box for each.  Getting out the door to go places is so much easier now!  Before we had all 5 members of the family all with shoes in the front closet and there was just too much and the children couldn't reach much and shoes just got thrown in the closet and lost.  Michelle likes hers to be nice and tidy.  Danny could care less.  And Kaelah owns a lot of shoes and loves it.
We love the P. family.  After meeting them at the park and having water play in their back yard, Kaelah was more than happy to have a chance to hold the new baby.  I'll have to convince Lisa to have Ethan play hookie from school so we can still hang out once a month.
Love this shot of the park b/c it shows the way each child likes to swing.  Slow & steady, underdog lover, and working hard pumping her legs.
Can't miss the Boulder County Fair!  I think Dan's highlight was seeing the truck he wants to buy on display.
Thank goodness for road tripping friends!  I hadn't seen my mission friend, Mindy, for years.  Now I got to meet all 4 of her children and she got to meet all 3 of mine.  It was great to have them crash in our basement on the way from Washington to Texas.  It means the world to me that my friends know where I live and think of me.
For our anniversary, Dan and I attending Twelfth Night and had a wonderful time.  Out of our 3 trips to the CO Shakespeare Festival, this was our favorite performance.  They were magnificent and hilarious and the weather was perfect.  Happy 9th Anniversary, love of my life!
Shawna brought over more hand-me-downs.  The girls adore their new costumes.  Every day they get to pretend and have a great time.  Here's Michelle's favorite costume.  (Most of them are Kaelah's size.)
Summer wouldn't be summer without Inta Juice!
Hey look.  Michelle likes babies too.  Caroline is such a patient little one.  This is while we were at Donna's house to say good-bye to their cousins, Hailey and Courtney, before they moved to Cheyenne.
Kaelah and Danny had their first experience tubing on a lake and loved it!  I'm so glad Jane was kind enough to invite us, and that Emily was there to share the ride with Kaelah.  Emily is now the favorite sibling in that family for Kaelah.  (:
Our ward had a music class on Monday mornings during the summer.  Kaelah and Danny loved it when Katherine taught them all how to be in a band.
Once again my husband's work's softball teams proved they are champions!  Here's a team photo from after the championship game and their prize t-shirts.  I knew I married a winner.  (:
Happy birthday to me!  I love going to Pinnochio's Restaurant, especially with my entire family there, including my parents.  I'm a very spoiled individual, especially on my birthdays.

The annual stake carnival is the best family activity of the year!  So grateful for all the hard work that gets put into it.  This year Dan brought 10 gallons of ice water and helping served hot dogs for half an hour.  Thanks, hon!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
