Musical beds & car seats

The last Saturday in September was amazing -- we got so much done! All 3 of our children are now sleeping in a new (to them) bed. When I decided it was time to move Michelle out of the pack-n-play in our room to a crib in Kaelah's room, I called in for reinforcements. My parents & Sabrina were happy to oblige. On that day my old twin bed frame was spray painted white, the green paint in Kaelah's room was touched up & the white base boards completely repainted, and the mattress set & new bedding were put into place. Turns out the frame wasn't meant to have a box spring with it. Opps. Gives it more of a princess feel & the bed rail from the toddler bed works this way.
The picture of Jesus & the children I had in my room as a little girl finally got hung up. The shelf that was taken out of Danny's closet when we put his Elfa system in (the day before we brought him home from the hospital) was cut down & added as a second shelf to the girls' closet & the entire thing reorganized so we could kick Michelle's clothes & blankets out of & off of my dresser. All said & done, Kaelah couldn't have been more excited. Look at how proud she is to be trying it out that evening. (:
The free crib Shannon snagged us was a perfect match for the glider already in Danny's room. And he is thrilled the toy box has been moved in there too -- there just isn't room for it anymore in the girls' room. After Grandpa & Danny fixed a flaw, Danny also liked having some new scenery to wake up too. We are so fortunate both of our cribs were free of charge due to kind friends!
So here is what it looks like on Michelle's side of the room. (She's actually taking a nap in there if you look real close.) Her mattress is a hand-me-down from Kaelah & the entire reason for moving Kaelah into a twin bed... I didn't want to own 3 toddler mattresses. Now all 3 of my children have used this crib. Thank you, Kelly F.!
I tried to find letters more like Kaelah's at Hobby Lobby, but these were the best white ones there. They are huge & Michelle's name is really long! Only 2 syllables, but golly sakes. We also noticed for the first time a certain 4-letter 'h' word is in our daughter's name. And as Shannon pointed out that night at the Relief Society dinner, if you take that word out you have mice left over. It was decided if Michelle ever becomes a rock star, those 2 words would be the good makings of her band's name. Sorry, Michelle, for the length & the 4-letter word.
K, D, & M also all have new (to them) car seats. Michelle began complaining about her infant seat so we purchased a second Graco Nautilus, this time in pink. Kaelah loves her pink, flowery car seat. Danny isn't so sure about getting his big sister's Nautilus & giving up the Britax Marathon to Michelle. He tried & tried & tried to climb into it while Dan had the car seats in the family room to re-adjust them. When we ride in the car you can tell he isn't thrilled, but he's not a complainer. What a nice boy. Michelle isn't too fond of her new situation either. I guess she was hoping for something forward facing, but that won't be for a long, long time.

I love the paint jobs in the kids' bedrooms! My younger sister's middle name is Michele, with only one 'e' because my mom didn't want that certain four-letter word in her name. I don't know who pointed it out, but it happened before she was born. Oh, and we skipped the toddler mattress stage and went straight to the twin bed. Probably because I didn't want to buy a mattress, and I needed the one we had for Bryant's crib. I'm cheap like that.

Precious Pumpkin

Our Halloween pictures finally made it to the computer. I won't state the name, but let's just say we know a certain 15-month-old who likes to hide things, especially if they are small & silver like a memory card reader. (: Oh look, here she is now, dressed up as a pumpkin fairy! And check out the super neat pumpkin Danny carved. We actually had neighbors make the effort to come compliment him before trick-or-treating began! I have never experienced a Halloween where families hang out on the porch to hand out candy the entire night! I just can't get over how wonderful the weather has been this fall. If there weren't long term consequences, I could really like global warming. Here's the cute little girl helping to hand out candy. She was a huge hit with the teenage trick-or-treaters. My favorite costume of the night was a guy dressed up as a kissing booth. When Dan asked him if that was working for him he replied, "I got a kiss from a 6-year-old ...

Danny's 1st Year Video

Exactly one year ago today we got a call from our case worker. He told us there was a birth mother thinking of placing her son with us for adoption. Usually he didn't make such phone calls before an official decision was made, but he felt that this little boy was meant for us & we needed a little warning b/c the due date was June 12. Low & behold, 4 days later he called to say Dani had chosen us to be her baby's parents. 2 weeks later, we were bringing Danny home from the hospital. It is difficult to believe Danny's birthday is only 2.5 weeks away. When I look back I feel he & I were a little gipped with me getting pregnant so soon after he was born & becoming a big brother at only 9.5 months, but he is so healthy & happy. There is no way he could have been any better of a baby... I'm convinced he is the easiest/best little guy to have ever graced the planet. We are so blessed. He is truly a joy of a boy.

No check up, but doing great!

The pediatrician thought Kaelah was doing well enough to skip her 15-month check up... but I can't resist a formal update before she turns 16-months-old tomorrow. Of course I'll put this first on the list: Kaelah said her first Chinese word last week! Bi zi for nose -- which she heard for the first time in Hawaii. Looks like I'll have to pick out word #2 soon! Kaelah is selective about the music we listen to now. She'll either say, "no" or begin dancing. We're thrilled she will now fold her arms while we pray over the food & by her crib at night. Kaelah will also say "yummmm" while eating & will give high 5's and knuckles. I think you'll pick up most of the rest from the video. (:
