The day after we returned from California we received an exciting phone call. Our case worker with LDS Family Services called me right as I was leaving work. He had news ... he had been meeting with a young woman named "Dani" that was considering placing her child with us, and she was due in THREE WEEKS!!! A few days later he called again saying that Dani wanted to meet with us and that she had chosen us to be her baby boy's parents. What a blessed surprise!!! We had only gotten back up on the adoption website in April, and here we were in May being told we were adopting a little boy in June!

Little Daniel Jakob ("Danny") was born 5 days early on Sunday, June 7th at 9:15 PM. Although the delivery was difficult, his birth mother was a real trooper. Danny weighed 8 lbs. 15 0z. and is a very healthy and happy young boy despite a broken clavicle. We were so blessed to be able to be at the hospital when he was born, and be able to visit him every day until we could bring him home. Through this experience we were able to get to know his birth family and we are so impressed with and grateful for them. They made this adoption such a joyful experience for all of us. Their strength and kindness is unsurpassed. Now we know what it is like to bring a baby home from the hospital!
Kaelah and Meigo are adjusting to the new baby very well. Kaelah has taken pride in being a big helper. She has brought Danny her toys to play with, helps feed him and has learned to ask to hold him. Sarah is ever watchful and is pleasantly surprised she shows only feelings of concern & care for her new sibling.
Danny had his first checkup with the pediatrician the day after we brought him home. He had already put on weight and was at the 9 lb. mark. She gave him an A+ despite his broken bone. This is actually a new pediatrician for our family. When Kaelah was on her way we did a lot of research but this doctor didn't have any openings. Now she does and she is great. Kaelah will be receiving her 2 year check up the same day as Danny will receive his 2 month check up.
We are still getting used to changing a boys diaper rather then a girls. We've learned you have to always be ready to cover the little guy up or you might get a wet face. :-)

There are so many little miracle associated with this baby boy. Sarah will share just the one about timing with you. As parents, we decided that when Kaelah was 18 months old, we would begin the adoption process again. When she was 14 months old, I had this pressing feeling we should begin the paperwork before leaving for Hawaii in October. Dan said we didn't need one more thing to do before we left town, but if I felt that's what needed to be done, we should do it. In January we completed everything we needed to do and were told all that was left was to wait for the background check to come back. Once again I had a pressing feeling I should pray for the legalities to all go smoothly. Little did we know, but the background checks had come back in record breaking time -- we had actually been approved in November! Luckily our new case worker noticed in March that this was true & worked very hard to have everything taken care of so we could be up on the website on April 2nd. As it turns out, April was plenty of time to be picked in May and bring baby Danny home in June. From the day Dani officially picked us to the day we brought baby Danny home, we had 2 weeks notice. Amazing. And I cannot get over the fact my children are only 22 months apart in age. The Lord works in mysterious & wonderful ways. We are so blessed.
