Joy & Pain

This is a picture of our happy Kaelah on February 13. This is a picture of our sad Kaelah on February 14. On Sunday morning, about an hour before Church started, we were all downstairs when Kaelah went upstairs to get something. Meigo scratched on the sliding glass door to be let out in the backyard. Kaelah loves to let the dog in & out now-a-days, so I asked her if she wanted to let Meigo out or if I should do it. She replied that she wanted to, and began down the stairs. For some reason she tripped & fell... & kept falling. Dan & I both rushed to the stairs & he caught her before she reached the bottom, but it was too late. We sent Danny to the neighbor's & took Kaelah to the ER. After x-rays to prove it, we were told she broke her humerus directly above the elbow. Kaelah was a real trooper but ran out of patience when they put the splint on her. I kept having single tears drop out of each eye. After we got home Dan vomited all afternoon. What ...

Genghis Khan

Somehow my parents successfully avoided the camera, but they are the ones who made this day possible! On January 30th, as a birthday present to Dan & Shannon, we all went to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to enjoy the latest traveling exhibit before it's last day here on Feb. 7th. Contrary to the picture below, Kaelah had a wonderful time! Something about a family photo makes her pout.... Oh, & enjoy Danny wearing those shoes b/c we lost one while at the Discovery Zone. Good thing they were a garage sale bargain. We took turns going to Gengkis Khan b/c it was certainly something not intended for 2-year-olds. We adults all really liked it, though! While Grandma & Grandpa went, Shannon & our young family went to the revamped health exhibit, where Kaelah loved the slide best! Meanwhile, Danny enjoyed the fancy straw things that made imprints of hands, etc. Danny used to do a great job hiding his little sister when I held him, but now we seem...

Some Explaining

Well, the time has come. We finally got the gutts to take an intentional photograph of what is soon to be a new addition to the family. Surprised? Well, if you haven't seen me in person lately, you should be! And yes, Dan & I were quite surprised too! A couple months after we brought Danny J. home from the hospital, I noticed how much more tired I was waking up in the middle of the night with him than I was when Kaelah was a newborn. I kept asking myself, is there really that big of a difference between ages 26 & 28? I didn't think anything of my period coming late b/c both Dan & I were complaining of nausea. Eventually I went to our family practice doctor & said, "I'm either pregnant or something is wrong with me that I want you to fix!" We ran the blood work & called the fertility specialist after he told me the rapid test came back VERY pink. From then we did the same thing we had done before. Held our breath & took LOTS of medi...

Happy Birthday!!!

I love this guy. He is my favorite person in the whole world. I'm so grateful David & Sandy treated us to PF Chang's for Dan's birthday & that Shannon doesn't charge for babysitting. (: The next day we had a little family get-together with the cake Shannon & Kaelah made while we were out on our double date. Once again, Kaelah loved the frosting. (: Since she had already swiped some frosting, she had a tough time waiting for us to cut the cake. Laughing... I'll save my mom the embarrassment of telling you what we're laughing about. I'm glad she took this picture b/c I got my hair chopped the other day! Daddy's happy children. We love you, birthday man!

Danny's Blessing

“He took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them” ( Mark 10:16). On Sunday, January 3rd, Daniel Jakob received his baby blessing. I have been waiting to find the words to describe just how much I love this little guy, but somehow giving myself almost a month has not made me any more of a communicator. Let's just say, 'what's not to love?!?' Danny has grown up so much this month. In January he got his 2nd buzz cut... how ironic that his sister didn't need her first hair cut until after he did & she's no where near needing another one. He began getting in a sitting position all on his own. The biggest event is that Danny is now crawling!!! I'm so happy for him. He doesn't go far but he is steady & quite deliberate. And of course the best thing to crawl to is me. (: We love you, Handsome! P.S. Thank you, Shannon, for his special white outfit!

Kaelah 2.5

So I realize most families don't do anything for their child's "half" birthdays, but may I remind you I was an only child? And, that we really don't have dessert very often, so it gives us a great excuse to have a special treat. We celebrated Kaelah turning 2 & a half a few days early to allow more time between her half & Dan's real b-day. *My, I can remember her as a 1.5 year old so well! Life has changed so much for us in the past year!* Baking on a Sunday afternoon as a family is so fun. Both our children loved the Cool Whip/Vanilla pudding filling. Singing in front of a Boston Cream Pie. Who says you have to have cake for a half b-day? Danny & Kaelah are like, "Woah... a candle that plays the birthday song!" And yes, my daughter is a pro at swiping frosting. Can you tell she enjoyed the cake? Every few bites we would hear, "yummy!" Happy half birthday, Kaelah bear! We are so lucky to have you in our family.
