Universal Studios Florida

     Years ago when Danny began reading the Harry Potter books I promised him we would take a trip to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida when he was done reading all seven books and watched all the movies. (Each time he finished a book he was able to watch the corresponding film.) After reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone together as a class at the Waldorf school last fall, Michelle sped through the series and Danny granted permission for her to join us. At the end of February I planned everything for the school’s 4 day weekend in October. We were so excited and especially grateful we could still go as planned even with the pandemic safety measures closing the parks down for months. By the time we got to Orlando you could tell the theme parks had things down to a science. We stayed at the cheapest of the Universal resorts (Endless Summer Surfside) and lucked out that they accidentally gave us a nicer room than I reserved and they let us keep it. We e...

Hybrid Learning

The weekend before in person school began we enjoyed softball (double header), D got to go to the lake with his friend, and a wonderful General Conference and all the good things that come with it. We had cinnamon rolls, backed sugar cookies, put together two space themed puzzles and snuggled puppies as we listened. Two of my artists, one at Young Women’s and one (M) using the Disney videos to draw all sorts of characters. Jack is helping decorate for Halloween.  We had a count down in the mantle to the first day of in person school and my youngest three children were so excited.  K considered home schooling or switching to one of the charter schools in town but after talking to her doctor we took home schooling off the list and after touring the charter school K decided that she would stay at her middle school where she already has friends and didn’t have to wear uniforms.  I’m so glad she had the choice between two good options because after she made her choice she was ...
